The Floral Guernsey Annual Awards Presentation and Dinner was held at Les Cotils on 6th September 2018 where there were two entries this year which were Sark and St. Saviour.

St Andrews Floral Group who have been hugely helpful in improving the grounds at the GSPCA  and won Gold at the 2017 awards had taken 2018 off from the awards for the Parish but have continued hard working around the Parish and headed up by Ann Wragg at the GSPCA.

Earlier in the year the judges Alan Dorey and Rae Beckwith popped along to the GSPCA to see the community work that continued and had been recognised in both the 2016 and 2017 awards.

The GSPCA were overjoyed and Ann was on hand to receive a brand new award called the Best New Project to recognise the great work that has taken place to improve the pond area for visitors and wildlife at the GSPCA and also the Poison Garden which is an educational area for pet owners to teach them about the plants that prove a danger to pets if they consume them.

Ann Wragg said “It was a lovely evening and we are so pleased that the work at the GSPCA has been recognised.”

“The GSPCA pond and Poison Garden has been a huge community project with so many helping make it what it is today.”

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We are so grateful to the Floral Guernsey Annual Awards for the wonderful accolade of Best New Project for the work that has been done to improve our pond area and the Poison Garden which is a fabulous resource when we are showing groups and schools around to teach them about the dangers of plants to their pets and what to think about.”

“The area also has a huge conservation side to it and we are developing a pond dipping area to help further with the educational visits we have.”

“There are so many to thank that have helped achieve this project, literally in the hundreds from businesses to school, cubs to St Andrews Floral Group, RSPB to many other charities and groups.”

“The work never stops and as are hoping to soon have an official opening on our Memorial Garden area and we are always keen to hear from volunteers that would like to help with this work to sponsors and businesses that would like to get involved with our conservation work and helping the site look wonderful for visitors.”

“If you are interested in getting involved please contact me on 257261 or email [email protected] .”

Here is a list of all of the winners from the night celebrating and recognising so much wonderful work that goes on in Guernsey 365 days a year.
