The recent cold weather has challenged many wild animals and earlier this week an egret was rescued after being found exhausted at Fauxquets Valley.

The bird was named 'Frosty' due to all of the cold weather we have had recently and thankfully after a few days of care was strong enough to be released back to the wild yesterday.

Yvonne Chauvel Senior Animal Care Assistant said "Frosty was very weak when he was first rescued so spent his first 24 hours in an intensive care unit and as he got stronger and we saw the rapid improvements with care and feed it was decided yesterday that Frosty was ready to go back to the wild."

"The cold weather can affect wild animals in many ways and we can all do our bit to help them from putting out feed to ensuring there are bowls of fresh water in our gardens."

Kevin Beausire GSPCA staff member said "Yesterday I took Frosty to be released on the north west of Guernsey and it was lovely to see him take his time getting back to the wild where he belonged."

"It was a lovely sunny day and a great experience see Frosty free again."

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "The winter is always a hard time for wildlife and Frosty was very lucky to have been rescued as was very weak on arrival at the GSPCA."

"If anyone finds a sick or injured animal in Guernsey we have lots of information online and we have a manned emergency line on 257261."

"To care for all of these animals is a huge undertaking and you can help us by sponsoring an animal pen or wildlife pen by filling in an Angel Pen Pal form or donating online."

"Next month we celebrate 144 years helping animals like Frosty in Guernsey and there are many ways to get involved with the GSPCA Purple Week."
