That's right Gert is the first duck in Guernsey with email.  Gert is a duck that lives at the shelter and tells her tales on our blog page.  She is an old Indian Running Duck (we believe) and she was nursed back to health by the shelter staff earlier this year.

If you or others want to tell Gert stories of Ducks and other animals or even send pictures to the shelter, Gert will pop a selection on her blog when she updates everyone about her adventures.

In fact after talks this week at Vauvert Primary School by our Education and Welfare Officer Emma Trousdale, Gert will pop some pictures on her blog this Monday from some of the school children there.

Gert tells all about her what she gets up to as well as what she has seen.  For example today’s blog was about the forth coming World Animal Day and Robin the work experience lad who helped release some ducks.  She also talks about some of her other friends that live at the shelter like Katie the Westie who lives with the manager and Mr Tiddles the shelter cat.

Gert looks forward hearing from you so please either email her on [email protected] or you can post your letters and pictures to

Or if you are passing then pop them into the reception staff and you may just get the chance to meet Gert the duck yourself.
