This weekend there were many tears at the Shelter as staff and volunteers waved a fond farewell to Dizzy and Naomi our two wonderful donkeys which went to their new loving retirement home.

They came into the Shelter at the end of 2011 as their previous owner could no longer care for them.

Naomi the quieter of the two who enjoys a simple head rub and some gentle fuss and Dizzy who on the other hand was hand reared so was used to human company and likes to be the centre of attention had been real stars at the Shelter.

Above they are pictured with Sheryl Carre (Animal Care Assistant) having their last meal at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews before they left for their new home.  Sheryl is one of the staff that has been caring for them over the last 5 months.  Dizzy who is 30 years old and Naomi who is over 40 have become very close to all of the staff.

On the weekend helped by some of the Shelters volunteers Naomi and Dizzy went to their very nice new family who have been all ready for their new additions.

Sheryl said ‘I will really miss them both but it is always lovely when we rehome animals, that’s why we are here.’  ‘They have been great characters and all the children that have visited the Shelter thought they were amazing.’

Emma Trousdale Education and Welfare Officer said ‘This is the best part of my job.’  ‘Dizzy and Naomi’s new owners are fantastic and they will have everything they need.’  ‘As soon as they arrived they got out and looked as though they had always lived there, they were so happy it warms the heart.’

All the Shelter staff and volunteers wish Naomi and Dizzy a happily ever after in their new home.

The Shelter always has lots of animals looking for homes although it is rare for us to have donkeys at the Animal Shelter.  If you are interested to see many of the animals looking for a new home please go to www.gspca.org.gg/animals or call 01481 257261

Below are some pictures of them in their new home.
