24 hours a day volunteers help the GSPCA team ensure we provide a 24/7 service and last night we held our fifth induction on 2018.

At the induction we welcomed 22 new volunteers 4 of which are undergoing their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh and 8 under taking their work experience of which 2 started today.

The inductions run at the GSPCA ensure that each volunteer have an understanding on what the GSPCA is, what we do, how we work, how to safely work at the Shelter and at our events, the rules at the Shelter and each session finishes with an individual chat with a member of the team to arrange a start time and date.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “It was wonderful to meet the 22 new volunteers and induct them into the GSPCA last night.”

“Every month we hold an induction evening at the GSPCA and there are so many roles to help with.”

“From gardening to helping clean kennels, on reception to caring for the wildlife, covering our ambulance to fund raising the work is 24/7 365 days a year so no matter how little or much time you have there is something for everyone.”

“This morning 2 that attended have started their work experience and have been really enjoying their first day.”

“To help with the animals volunteers do have to be at least 13 years of age but we do have younger volunteers that help with fund raising events like our Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday which takes place on the 20th May.”

“We have a huge number of events planned for 2018 with others upcoming and we are always looking for helpers.”

“We are also really appealing for volunteers to help clean and care for the small animals, cats, dogs and wildlife.”

“The next volunteer induction takes place at 630pm on Monday the 4th June and all are welcome to attend at the GSPCA.”

“So far this year we have now inducted 76 new volunteers through our evening inductions and we look forward welcoming new faces next month.”

“We are really looking for volunteers to help with events and especially our Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday on the 20th May as well as a number of other areas.”

Some of the areas we are really looking for volunteer help is –

  • Helping organise and administer volunteer information
  • Gardening
  • Reception
  • Ambulance Wardening
  • Guided Tours
  • Charity Shop
  • Events & Fund Raising
  • Publications, leaflets and Newsletters
  • Maintenance, Painting and Grounds Work
  • Cat cleaners and carers
