One week on and our 3 hoglets are doing well.

Widge, Midge and Fidge were rescued last week after being found with no mother in sight last Friday.

Ambulance Collection Officer Geoff George attended the scene in Torteval where they were found all alone in a shed.

The baby hedgehogs or hoglets as they are called were rushed to the GSPCA Animal Shelter in St Andrews where they were fed and rushed into an intensive care unit.

We are pleased to report the baby hoglets have been fed around the clock and are doing extremely well.

Sarah Ozanne Animal Care Assistant and current foster mother said "It's hard work hand feeding baby hedgehogs or hoglets as we call them around the clock, but it is extremely rewarding."

"We've called them Fidge, Midge and Widge and their spines are now properly starting to show and they have grown so much in the last week."

"It is still early days as they are so delicate at this young age, but thankfully they have made it through the hardest stage which is their first few days as they were likely only a day or two at most when they were rescued from the shed in Torteval."

"If you find a nest with a mother hedgehog please don't disturb them, but if you are worried or find a baby or adult hedgehog in need please do call us on 257261 or check out our web site for advice."

"Did you know you or your business can sponsor our hedgehogs and become an Angel Pen Pal sponsor and be part of their care and welfare."

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "Sarah and the GSPCA team have been working around the clock to ensure these helpless hoglets are still alive with us today."

"It is that time of year when we see many young animals and we are only a phone call away if anyone has any concerns."

"We help on average between 300 and 400 hedgehogs a year and all are microchipped before they are released so we know who they are if they find their way back to the GSPCA."

"Widge, Midge and Fidge are still requiring around the clock care and we will keep you up to date on how they progress."

"If you would like to donate towards these little babies or any of our animals in need we would really appreciate it and thank you to all of our supporters from the GSPCA who help us make a difference 24 hours a day 7 days a week."
