On what was a very sunny Sunday morning the GSPCA held another sold out Dog First Aid Course at the Animal Shelter.

The GSPCA have been running a series of training courses at the GSPCA site in St Andrews.

With 18 in attendance and taken by GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne the training session which takes just over 2 hours covered topics from dog CPR to seizures.

Many of those attending had a wealth of knowledge on dogs as nearly a dozen trainers from the Island Dog Training Club came along to learn and also share their experiences.

The course model that helped with a few demonstrations was a little westie at only 12 weeks called Benson.  Although Benson looked very cute after he helped the attendees search for a heart beat and caused some mischief he went back to his pen.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said 'This is the third course we have held for Dog First Aid and through sharing experiences we develop and look to improve the content of the course each time.'

'It was lovely that the Island Dog Club Trainers came along as they were a wealth of experience and knowledge.'

'From those with lots of experience to a young lad at only 13 years of age the course is catered for all levels of experience.'Benson a westie puppy GSPCA first aid course for dogs in Guernsey

'The next sessions are in July and places are going quick.'

'We also have another Animal Care Course planned in September with WEA and another Pet Bereavement training session in November.'

'Thank you to all those that attended and we look forward seeing some who are planning to come along to other courses.'
