Yesterday Northern Trust broke a GSPCA record as over 100 of their staff have now helped volunteer since April 2014.

This was a literal ground breaking record as the team of 8 not only took the volunteer numbers from Northern Trust to 106 they also spent the day digging, weeding, planting and laying a disabled access path to our wildlife area and pond with help from the Work to Benefit team and Group Leader Ann Wragg from St Andrews Floral Group.

Over the previous three years 98 volunteers from Northern Trust have helped out at the GSPCA, with 38 staff helping in 2014 and a further 26 helping in 2015 and in 2016 34.

When Matt Tyler, Andrew Bent, Katy Le Huray, Dominic Palmeri, Haylie Mahieu, Guy Hardill, Keiron Highfield and Tracy Marquis arrived they were clean and well dressed to help with grounds work and by the end of the day they were rather muddy and sweaty after a full day of hard work.

After an extremely hard days work GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne took the team from Northern Trust for a guided tour where they saw many of the 400+ animals at the GSPCA.

Before the group left and after the tour the team got a thank you certificate for all of their hard work and also a special certificate featuring many of the volunteer groups that have previously helped for the ground breaking record of over 100 volunteers helping from one business.

The work they under took is part of the 'Going, Going, Gone Wild' project which is headed by St Andrews Floral Group at the GSPCA to improve the grounds at the Animal Shelter for the wildlife, create educational areas and improve the site for the tens of thousands of visitors that pop along to the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We are so grateful as once again I have to say that the staff from Northern Trust are truly amazing and we really, really do appreciate all of their wonderful support and help."

"It is amazing that since April 2014 over 100 of the Northern Trust staff have now volunteered at the GSPCA which equates to having a full time staff member working for 6 months."

"We are so lucky to have caring businesses in Guernsey like Northern Trust that allow their staff to help in the community."

"Everyone worked really hard and on yesterday and the team at the GSPCA thank all from Northern Trust for all of their hard work and help."

"They worked very closely with the Work to Benefit team and guided by Ann who is the Group Leader from St Andrews Floral Group and heading up the Going, Going, Gone Wild project at the GSPCA."

"We always love to hear from businesses that would like to help us help the animals and community of Guernsey and there are many ways getting involved from CSR programmes to sponsoring animals in our care."

"We can even run bespoke events such as guided tours for your team and their families."

"From all at the GSPCA a huge thank you to all at Northern Trust."

Matthew Tyler from Northern Trust said "Thanks for a fun day yesterday, I hope we were able to make come kind of small dent in the works that needs to be done."

Guy Hardill from Northern Trust said "Fantastic day volunteering at the GSPCA."

"Thanks Steve and Anne for hosting us."

"We worked on the fab gardens and pond area, cleared out and re-planted."

"Massive effort by all."
