Guernsey man Mark Haggarty is taking on his first ever marathon and has decided that he would like to help animals in Guernsey for this momentous task.
Mark didn't think when applying for a place in the London Marathon he would be accepted but after finding out that he now has this amazing opportunity he is busy not only preparing for this huge run, he is also raising funds to help the many animals at the GSPCA.
Mark Haggarty who works at Credit Suisse said "I casually applied to take part in the 2017 London Marathon not really believing that I would get a place, so it was a very nice but also somewhat scary surprise to receive an official mailing stating "You're in!" I now want to use this opportunity to raise some sponsorship in support of the Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA)."
"They help over 3000 animals a year, 7 days a week and they are caring for over 400 animals which all need to be fed and cared for."
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "It was wonderful to meet Mark earlier this week who is running the London Marathon and at the same time raising funds for the GSPCA."
"Mark has never run a marathon before so this is a huge challenge for him and we are all willing him on at the GSPCA."
"We are so thankful to Mark as the funds he raises during this amazing challenge will help the hundreds of animals in our care."
