Yesterday at the GSPCA we were kept very busy from loose horses to injured cats.

Not only were members of the GSPCA team helping animals in need around Guernsey on Remembrance Sunday, but there was one that needed helping on site at the Shelter in St Andrews.

Animal Care Assistant Sarah Ozanne and volunteer Fleur Pizzey were busy cleaning and feeding the animals in the outdoor runs when they could hear a lot of 'meows'.

It didn't seem to be coming from the cattery building so on investigating they spotted a young kitten in the fields at the Shelter.

They quickly moved into action and soon caught the kitten.

At only 7 weeks of age the young black and white kitten is very thin and a little timid.

The team called the kitten Remembrance and he has quickly settled into his pen.

It is hard to say if he is a kitten that has been born in the area or abandoned at the Shelter, but we are asking neighbours and those in the area to please watch out in case there are other kittens around the Rue des Truchots in St Andrews.

Sarah Ozanne GSPCA Animal Care Assistant said "Fleur and I were busy cleaning out the ferrets at the GSPCA and we kept hearing a 'meow' and just couldn't understand where it was coming from."

"In the end we started to have a good look and we spotted this tiny kitten in our field at the Animal Shelter."

"Thankfully we were able to catch the little guy and we have called him 'Remembrance'."

Anna Paint Senior Animal Care Assistant said "Poor little Remembrance is very thin and with all this wet weather he is certainly one lucky kitten, as we haven't seen a mother cat around the area."

"Remembrance is now safe and warm in one of our pens at the GSPCA and he is a long way off being ready to go to a new home, but thankfully we have a list of loving homes looking for kittens."

"We are asking anyone living near to the Shelter to watch out in case there is a mother with kittens, and to please let us know if there are any other sightings."

"We have lots of older cats in need of homes if anyone is looking to for a new feline friend."
