On Monday 4th June from 4pm until 7pm we will be holding a very special open evening.

The GSPCA and Pet concern are holding a senior cat re-homing event aimed at senior citizens only.

PET CONCERN is a charity that enables older people to keep and care for their much-loved cat or to help look after a new cat that has entered their life.

They can help with giving medication, preparing and cleaning litter trays, grooming, feeding, cat food shopping and also providing transport for the owner and cat to the vets.

Sometimes older people are put off from re-homing a cat as they feel they are not active enough or able to physically care for them which is such a shame as cats can bring so much love and companionship to a home and an elderly person.

We have a number of older cats that we have had for some time such as Jingles one of our long stay senior cats, looking for his forever home

Cats, like people, are living much longer these days and at the GSPCA we have a number of older cats and also cats in need of a quiet home only who would love to find the purrfect forever home to live out the rest of their years in.

Anna Paint Senior Animal Care Assistant "We recently had a meeting to discuss how to find our older cats a home and decided that running a special night might just help find them that forever home."

"We have some great links with the Pet Concern team that help a number of islanders care for their pets and they too want to help us find some of our older cats find a forever home."

"We have older cats like Jingles who is hyperthyroid and has been with us since March last year to cats like 9 year old Captain Jack who has allergies and has been with us since last January."

"We are hoping that holding a Senior Kittizen and Senior Citizen evening it could just help one of these lovely older cats find their forever home."

Michelle Champion GSPCA staff member said "We will be opening the Charity Shop until 7pm on the 4th June so those coming to visit the older cats in need can also check out our pet department we have and get a drink and a few snacks."

"We have some really adorable older cats at the GSPCA and we so want to find them loving new homes."

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We have around a dozen older cats or those with medical needs looking for a home and the Senior Kittizen and Senior Citizen is the first ever event of its kind we have held to help those animals in need."

"If you can't offer an animal a home there are many ways to support our work from sponsoring an animal pen to sharing their details on social media."

REFRESHMENTS WILL BE PROVIDED AND THE CHARITY SHOP WILL BE OPEN UNTIL 7PM SO PLEASE COME ALONG AND SEE OUR CATS WITHOUT ANY OBLIGATION
