On Sunday the GSPCA were called out to rescue a young sheep.

The GSPCA operate a 24/7 emergency service and we never know what or when a call may come in.

Sometimes it is a false alarm such as an injured bird which was a wig, an injured seal pup which was a mattress or even an injured hedgehog which was a pine cone.

Most of the time however it is a real animal in distress.

The young animal was caught in some string fencing and after receiving the emergency call volunteer warden Michelle Champion and her husband headed out to the scene in the south of Guernsey.

The animal was quickly freed and the farmer informed to ensure his animal was well cared for.

Michelle Champion GSPCA Volunteer Warden said "On Sunday we rescued a lamb that had got separated from the rest of the sheep."

"He had got caught in this string fencing and we managed to help release him."

"On the 30th September at 3am I was called out to rescue a stray calf and we are often called to help assist with farm animals to wildlife."

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We have a fantastic team of volunteer wardens and it is amazing the variety of calls we get both day and night."

"It is important no matter what animal you keep to ensure it has appropriate materials used to enclose it and it is a shame this poor sheep managed to get caught in the netting."

"Thankfully the poor sheep was spotted in distress, reported and the GSPCA Warden was able to act quickly."

"If you find a sick or injured animal or an animal in distress please call 257261 and chose the emergency option."

"Not all of the calls we receive turn out to be animals and we have many stories of false alarms from hedgehogs which were pine cones to seals that were mattresses."
