Could you help the GSPCA in helping animals find new homes?
You may already have pets or aren't able to but here is a way that you can help those feathered and furry friends find a new home.
We always have animals looking for new homes and the link below is a link to just a small selection.
Why not place a poster up at your work or local shop and help spread the word of those animals needing new homes in Guernsey.
To download the posters please
We are pleased to report that today Felix our longest stay cat has gone to her new home.
This makes Lamar the longest stay cat as he came in last March.
Lamar is an independent lad and likes his own space. At only two years old he needs a home where he can do his own thing as he's not keen on cuddles.
Anna Paint Senior Animal Care Assistant said 'I'm over joyed that we have found Felix a new home but Lamar is now our longest stay cat in need.'
'He is beautiful but does need a home where he can do his own thing.'
Pickles the cat who was diagnosed with cancer had her operation to remove her ear tips yesterday.
She is doing well and the vet and team at the Shelter are hopeful that Pickles has had all of the affected areas removed.
Anna Carre Senior Animal Care Assistant said 'She is so sweet and she still has a way to go before her ears are all healed.'
'The main problem I now have with Pickles is that she is so friendly she wants to head rub you to say hello and with her ears needing to heal its very difficult to stop it.'
Every day we see sick and injured animals here at the GSPCA Animal Shelter in Guernsey.
Oscar a male black and white cat although looks quite healthy has kidney problems and the GSPCA and our vets are trying to determine what is the exact problem.
After a series of tests he currently is having a 3 week course of antibiotics to hopefully cure what we are hoping will be just an infection.
Oscar is just one of the many un-neutered, stray cats we have had in at the Shelter this year and we are urging owners to ensure their cats are spayed with Spring upon us.
You may have heard about or seen Cinders the cat on the internet or local media.
She came in to the Shelter for rehoming but unfortunately had a number of issues with her health, teeth and gums.
Cinders had an initial opertation and has been on treatment for two months but unfortunately yesterday the brave decision had to be made to remove all but her 4 canines leaving her with a very gummy mouth.
Although never an easy decision, despite a series of treatments, it was decided to remove many of Cinders teeth as it was in her best interest.
At nearly 13 years of age and arrived at the Shelter last June we are pleased to announce that Abigail is now in a new home.
Abigail who was one of the older cats at the Shelter and certainly a staff favorite went to her new home on Saturday.
At the GSPCA we see animals of all sizes and ages but unfortunately the older animals are often over looked for the youngsters. At the Shelter we currently have a number of older cats looking for that loving retirement home.
Despite the recent snow and inclement weather the GSPCA are already seeing signs of Spring.
From guinea pigs to pregnant cats there has already been birth's at the Shelter and yesterday we received our first chicks of 2013.
Buck and Trout two young pigeons which were rescued from a work site are now being hand fed by staff and volunteers at the GSPCA Animal Shelter.
With cold weather coming and potential sleet and snow on the way the GSPCA want pet owners to consider all the animals of Guernsey. During a cold snap the GSPCA are on full alert, ready to deal with a variety of animals affected by the low temperatures.
But you can also do your bit to prevent animals suffering over the cold period.
Do you have a pond?
If you have a pond, make sure you check it every day for ice, as toxic gases can build up in the water of a frozen pond. These can kill fish or frogs that are hibernating at the bottom.
