APPEAL GSPCA Fridge and Freezer Appeal

At the GSPCA we are in need of replacing two under table standard fridges and a standing standard fridge freezer.

These are used around site for storing animal feed and medications.

Stray corn snake found on Vale Road

On Sunday 27th June a stray corn snalke was found on Vale Road.

The reptile is safe and well at the GSPCA where we are appealing for the owner to come forward.

The GSPCA are appealing for anyone that has any information or lost a corn snake to contact the Animal Shelter on 01481 257261 or email [email protected] .

Yvonne Chauvel GSPCA Senior Animal care Assistant said “on Sunday a stray corn snake was found on Vale Road and we are trying to find the owner.”

Stray turtle on her way back home

Earlier this month the GSPCA had a very large turtle recued after being handed into Les Eturs Veterinary Centre.

The reptile was found in Castel earlier this mont and the GSPCA have been trying to find the owner and we are delighted to say that today was the magical day that ‘Tilly as she is named was reunited.

Will Domaille GSPCA staff member said “The turtle was found in Castel and it was great to hand her back to her owners today.”

“We actually have quite a few musk turtles at the GSPCA in need of homes and anyone interested please do get in touch with us.”

Pork Pie the seal pup on the road to recovery at the GSPCA

We are pleased to announce that Pork Pie the grey seal pup originally from Cornwall is doing well and improving daily.

Geoff George GSPCA Animal Collection Officer and Head of Marine Mammals said “Little Pork Pie's wounds have healed and he is improving daily.”

“All 4 seal pups are eating well although Titan prefers mackerel to herring.”

“India, titan and Joey will hopefully be released next month but we have to ensure they are fit and well enough and we have good weather before we can set a date.”

See the GSPCA at every Seafront Sunday with the second EDABL this weekend and can you help

This Sunday the GSPCA will once again be on the Seafront for the second EDABL Seafront Sunday and third of the year taking place in St Peter Port.

This Sunday from 10am till 4pm the GSPCA are delighted to say we will be joining the EDABL Seafront Sunday to raise much needed funds and promote the work of the Animal Shelter.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We always have great fun at the Seafront Sundays and not only are we looking forward to this weekend, we are appealing for volunteers to help at the second EDABL Seafront Sunday on the 27th June."

See the GSPCA at the Government House Charites Fete Saturday 26th June 12pm – 4pm

More than 40 local charities with a variety of stands - all on the front lawn of Government House.

Various activities and entertainment through the afternoon - plus food and refreshments.

Entry is free (car park is min. £2 donation to Guernsey Scouts).

By kind permission of His Excellency The Lieutenant-Governor who is also the Patron of the GSPCA.

Open Garden raises over £2000 for the GSPCA and Young Lives vs Cancer

As part of this year’s Floral Guernsey charity events, Samarkand, Castel, was opened for the first time in aid of the GSPCA and Young Lives vs Cancer.

310 visitors visited the garden for one day only in June, which was the sunniest and hottest day of the year so far. Visitors also enjoyed tea, coffee, delicious homemade cakes, a Bloomin’ Bellini bar, and there was a fantastic raffle too.

All around Guernsey each year businesses and offices have had their 4 legged friends come to work and this ear Bring Your Dog To Work Day takes places today, Friday 25th June.

Having a dog in the room can make human colleagues more cooperative, reduce stress, increase job satisfaction and productivity.

When adopting a dog or any animal from the GSPCA we often ask how many hours potential owners may be at work.  Perhaps the question should actually be - are you able to take your dog to work?

WARNING FOR CAT OWNERS - Cat food recalled over potential link to serious illness

An outbreak of a rare condition that causes severe illness in cats has led to a voluntary recall of multiple brands of cat food

Fold Hill Foods is voluntarily recalling a number of its hypoallergenic cat food products, from brands including Applaws, AVA and Sainsbury’s, over a possible link to an outbreak of a potentially fatal condition, feline pancytopenia.

The original article published below on 16 June 2021 stated that only the Applaws products with the Best Before dates of December 2022 to June 2023 were included in the voluntary recall.

GSPCA ADVICE - WARNING Kennel Cough in Guernsey

Every Summer in Guernsey we see a rise in case of kennel cough in dogs.

This year is no different and kennel cough for those that don’t is an airway infection which causes a nasty cough in dogs. More severe cases can occasionally result in symptoms such as a high temperature or a reduced appetite.

Please call your vet for advice if you think your dog has kennel cough. Most dogs improve on their own, but some need treatment from a vet.
