It is with a heavy heart that we write this blog to inform you that due to a number of recent cancellations we are afraid we are having to postpone the GSPCA Masquerade Ball at the Farmhouse on the 1st April.
We are hoping to reschedule later in the year with Save the Date, Youthe and the Farmhouse and we are already looking at alternative dates, possibly in September and will of course let everyone know as soon as we have dates set.
After sell out days at the GSPCA last year for our GSPCA Easter Egg, Bunny and Treasure Hunts we have dates planned for this month.
Children meet the Easter bunny and GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne before having a tour of many of the animals, but especially the bunny rabbits.
As the groups are shown around they have a treasure hunt to complete whilst learning all about rabbits.
After the tour the group arrive at the events room where after finding out the answers and receiving prizes they are issued with buckets for an Easter Egg Hunt.
The 2016 Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday will be the fifth and takes place much earlier than usual on Sunday 15th May.
On the 15th May 2016 10am to 4pm the GSPCA will be organising a day to celebrate the animals in Guernsey and all the wonderful work that is done to care for them.
We are extremely grateful to all those that made last 4 years such great days and we are hoping this years will be bigger and better.
There will be stalls and fun for all the family - all with an animal theme.
We really need your support to fill the last few tables for our Masquerade Ball on the 1st April.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We still have a few tables for our Masquerade Ball on April 1st at the Farmhouse and we are desperately trying to fill them with all the proceeds helping animals like Olivia the turtle and Bonnie the seal pup."
"Tables can be up to 13 but if you have a smaller group or even a couple please do get in touch."
Yesterday we saw visitors for the first of the guided tours at the GSPCA for half term with 28 to look around.
Sarah Creasey GSPCA Animal Welfare and Education Officer met the group at the front of reception at 2pm to greet them and show behind the scenes at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
From seeing some of the wildlife to meeting one of the dogs in for a home the group got to see many of the 300 animals in our care.
Last week Sarah Creasey Animal Welfare and Education Officer gave a tour to the 8th Guernsey Cubs.
The Cubs got to see behind the scenes and meet many of the animals in our care and enjoyed a talk from Sarah as they went around the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
The group enjoyed themselves so much that last night they decided to raise funds for the many animals in our care and particularly one of the thinnest rescues we have seen being Bonnie the grey seal pup.
Here is a write up from Aoife Bennett an amazing lady who with Mike Meinke are taking on a challenge to raise funds for the many animals at the GSPCA.
Aoife Bennett says.....
Following a long recovery as a result of breaking two bones in my back in 2009, it has been a challenge to maintain a steady level of fitness. Later in 2014 I contracted a viral infection that seriously affected my balance called Labyrinthitis, which meant no exercise for a further 6 months.
So what has kept me going?
As part of GSPCA Purple Week and to celebrate our 143rd anniversary we held a Birthday Bingo night at the Last Post on Tuesday.
The event was well attended and all had a lovely evening with 8 games of bingo with food served by the Last Post team during the break.
There were many winners and each of the tables took a selection of prizes home.
The last game with the Jackpot prize was a double winner and both ladies shared the winnings and prizes.
During the school breaks we run a series of guided tours at the GSPCA and we have now planned for 2016 with some special tours for the children.
It is your opportunity to visit behind the scenes at our Animal Shelter in St Andrews and see the work being carried out for the new build.
We are arranging the guided tours on a series of dates at 2pm.
We ask for a minimum donation of £5 per person and £3 per child, or £15 for a family of four. In 2016 we have some themed tours which are £15 per child.
