Final Day of #GSPCAPurpleWeek Celebrates ‘Love Your Pet Day’ as GSPCA Highlights Its Biggest Wishes

Today marks the final day of #GSPCAPurpleWeek, the GSPCA’s annual celebration of community spirit, animal welfare, and 153 years of caring for animals in Guernsey. Fittingly, it also coincides with Love Your Pet Day—a perfect opportunity for islanders to show appreciation for the pets who bring joy, comfort, and companionship to so many lives.

Throughout the week, individuals, schools, businesses, and supporters across the Bailiwick have been proudly going purple to raise funds and awareness for the GSPCA’s work. From themed bake sales and dress‑down days to social media photos, the island has once again shown outstanding support.

As celebrations conclude, the GSPCA is reminding the community of the many ways they can continue to help—particularly through supporting the organisation’s Wish List, which features essential items that directly benefit the animals in its care.

GSPCA Wish List – How Islanders Can Help

The GSPCA’s Wish List includes vital items that make a meaningful difference every single day. Some of the current needs include:

  • Towels and bedding for rescued wildlife and injured animals
  • Cat and kitten food, especially meat‑based pouches
  • Dog treats and enrichment toys to support behavioural care
  • Bleach, washing powder, disinfectant and cleaning supplies
  • Wild bird seed, suet, and feed for rehabilitation patients
  • Small animal supplies such as hay, pellets, toys, and safe chew items
  • Stamps and office supplies to help with administration and fundraising
  • Financial donations toward veterinary bills, specialist treatment, and emergency care

Donations can be dropped to the GSPCA or purchased through the charity’s online Wish List partners.

Supporting the #GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal

The GSPCA also continues to raise funds for the #GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal, the largest redevelopment project in the charity’s 153‑year history. The appeal aims to deliver modern facilities including:

  • A new Wildlife Hospital
  • Renovated Kennels and Cattery
  • A dedicated Small Animal Unit
  • Safer, greener, and more sustainable buildings for long‑term care

With construction well underway and approximately half the appeal funds secured, the charity still needs community support to complete the project and ensure it can continue providing life‑saving care for decades to come.

Quote from GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne

Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager, said:
“As we celebrate the final day of #GSPCAPurpleWeek on Love Your Pet Day, we are truly overwhelmed by the kindness shown across the island. From families dressing in purple to businesses hosting events and schools sharing wonderful pictures, the support has been incredible. I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has joined in—and also a special thank you to our amazing GSPCA team, who have fully thrown themselves into the purple celebrations while continuing to provide outstanding care to the animals who need us the most.”

“As we look ahead, our Wish List and our #GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal remain essential to the future of animal welfare in Guernsey. Every item donated and every pound raised directly helps us care for thousands of animals each year. Your support truly makes a difference, and we are so grateful for it.”
