Today is World Animal Day and to celebrate not only are the GSPCA in Market Square with a selection of animals in need of a home but we are celebrating one of our cats helping another.

On Wednesday an appeal went out on BBC Guernsey for a cat in need of blood.

Isabelle Vets and the owner were asking for cats between the age of 1 and 8 years of age with blood type A.

The GSPCA heard the call for help and took a selection of the 57 cats in need of homes from the Shelter that could be suitable.

Thumbs a young tabby male fitted the bill and yesterday he returned to Isabelle Vets to donate the blood needed for the cat in need to help save his life.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said 'We heard the call for help and got in touch straight away with Isabelle Vets.'

'Thumbs is a wonderful cat and has been reserved this week thanks to our late night openings so will hopefully be going to a new home soon.'

'We are always here to help any animal in need if we can and we are so pleased that we have been able to make a difference to this cats life.'
