Bonnie the grey seal pup who was rescued on the 16th January has been through a long rehabilitation and we are now in the final stretch. To achieve this we are offering the chance to see her being released to one lucky person.

When rescued she was close to death being extremely thin and having a number of debilitating health conditions.

After 3 months of treatment and care we are now trying to get the final fattening pounds on her to ensure she is ready for the wild.

Having being tube fed to start she is now eating dozens of fresh fish every day and she currently needs to have her feed increased to help her put on that vital fat she will need to survive in the wild.

At last Bonnie is over double her rescue weight at a little over 28kgs often eating 30 or more fish a day, although not fat enough yet.

She needs to be well over 40kgs before her release and we really needs your help.

To get that release weight and fat on her we need to increase her feed of fresh mackerel and herring so she is ready for the final stage to get her back to the wild.

For those that donate £5 or more towards the 'Seal pup fish appeal' you (or a nominated friend) will get the chance to be entered into a draw to come along on her release when she is ready.

Although a location is yet to be decided we have released the last 4 seal pups on Jethou in recent years.

If you donate £5 or more online through our Paypal page, over the phone 257261, at the Shelter or by post and give us a contact and reference 'Seal pup fish appeal' or fill in the form linked below we will enter you into the prize draw.

Also all new Angel Pen Pal Sponsors will also be entered into the prize draw which is a way you can help animals every month in Guernsey.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We really were worried for Bonnie the seal pup when she was rescued as she was so weak and we really thought she wouldn't survive."

"Thanks to the hard work and care of the team at the GSPCA, especially Geoff George and a few sleepless nights caring for Bonnie the seal pup she has now doubled her weight."

"For the first time ever we are offering the chance for one lucky person to come along when she is released and to enter the competition all you need do is donate at least £5 or become an Angel Pen Pal sponsor and give us your details."

"The winner will be chosen at random on the 15th May at our Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday just after 3pm."

"We need to get at least another 12kg or more on her to be fit enough for the wild and we are hoping this competition will help raise the funds to get that final weight on her and help with the care that she has had at the GSPCA."

The winner will be chosen just after 3pm at Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday on the 15th May.
