This is one lucky Christmas Robin!

Now named Blessing this little robin has been brought into the GSPCA after being attacked by a cat.

Blessing is in a hospital cage and we are hopeful for him to pull through and to be back in the wild before Christmas.

Hundreds of birds are brought into the GSPCA every year after cat attacks and we would urge owners of cats to use safety collars with bells to help give our feathered friends a chance.

Also with the winter and inclement weather drawing in the GSPCA would also like to encourage all islanders to put out food and fresh water for the birds.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said 'It is important that we all think of our feathered friends at this time of year.'

'Not only is there less food about but also far less cover for them to hide.'

'A safety collar with bell can help save lives and putting out food for them will increase their chance of survival especially with the cold weather.'

The GSPCA retail a selection of wild bird food as well as feeders and for more information either call into the Animal Shelter or phone 01481 257261.

We will also have a range of bird feed at the OSA Recruitment Pop Up Charity Shop on Smith Street from the 17th December.
