A stray wire haired terrier has been missing for almost 8 weeks and has last been seen in the Forest area.

The GSPCA, Commerce and Employment and local authorities are working together to safely capture the lost little dog.

Unfortunately the small tan wire haired terrier was originally part of a cruelty case in the UK and recently rehomed in Guernsey.  As such the dog is extremely nervous and timid, meaning it is fearful of humans.

The GSPCA and authorities are appealing that general public do not go out actively looking for the dog as it will affect the humane capture of this unfortunate little canine.  Being so fearful it will run away when approached.

The GSPCA would like to state that there are no plans to use any form of capture for the dog other than humane traps and techniques to ensure the welfare of the dog.

The GSPCA is concerned for the welfare of the dog and in instances of nervous stray animals it can take some time to capture them in large open spaces.  Staff and volunteers are monitoring the area and providing food at a strategic position to help with the animals capture.

We would ask people not to place food out for the dog as this will affect us securing the little terrier.

We are urging anyone that does live in and around the area with sightings of the dog to report them to the GSPCA on 01481 257261, email to [email protected] or by all means use our social networks to inform us, but what we would like is -

- Exact location (ideally a Perry Guide page and grid reference)

- Time and date of sighting

- Ideally a photo if possible

The GSPCA working with other groups and authorities has had most of the reports in the Forest area but we are keen to have any additional sighting of the pictured dog.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said 'We are very worried about this lost little terrier but to capture such a nervous dog requires an approach to reduce the stress and fear of the animal.'

'We are asking the public not to actively go out looking for the dog as it will likely run from its current location as it is so scared of people.'

'Dogs especially those that have been cruelly treated are often fearful of humans and we want to capture the dog as safely and as quickly as possible, but this can take time.'

>'If anyone does see the dog we are urging them to contact us as we are now coordinating the search from the GSPCA.'

The GSPCA and authorities would like to reassure islanders that shooting of the dog is not an option and we are hopeful with the plans and action in place the dog will be captured as soon as we possibly can.

The history and timid nature of this scared lost little terrier shows the dog only to be fearful of humans and not pose any danger to the public.

"well done everyone involved in safely catching Slygo. Living in the area we saw him only twice, at a distance, but worried about him daily."
