On the 23rd March of this year a very poorly sweet stray cat was brought into the GSPCA after being found wandering into someones kitchen near Les Genats Estate.

As with all strays under the Guernsey Animal Welfare Ordinance 2012 we held the 7 year old tabby for 21 days but sadly due to no microchiip, tag or lost report we were unable to find the owner of what we found to be a very sick cat.

Kit Kat as he has been fondly named is one of the friendliest cats we have at the GSPCA but sadly has a number of health issues.

On arrival we quickly noticed his mouth was red raw, infected and he was in desperate need of a dental which happened earlier this week and between this and his treatment it is likely to cost £100's for his care.

He has also tested positive for Calicivirus which means that once he is recovered from his operation he will need to be a house cat which he would be well suited to with his lovely friendly nature.

Anna Paint Senior Animal Care Assistant said "Kit Kat is a wonderful sweet boy who has been through a lot with all the problems with his teeth, gums and calicivirus."

"We've had him checked regularly by the vet at the GSPCA and he has been improving every day and now he has had his dental we hope to be able to soon put him up for adoption where he will need a very special home."

"Kit Kat is a fantastic cat and despite all the problems he has had he always loves to say hello and have a fuss."

"If anyone would like to help donate towards this lovely cat he and we would really appreciate it."

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "It's always upsetting for the team at the GSPCA when we find very sick stray cats as we often wonder how long they have been suffering."

"Thankfully the kind person that found Kit Kat brought him in to us at the GSPCA and now as he is in our care we have helped make him feel so much better."

"Kit Kat is a fantastic cat and as he recovers we will hopefully look to find him a new home very soon."

"There are many ways to support our work and care of cats like Kit Kat from donating online, over the phone to sponsoring a cat pen each month and we always love to hear from those that want to support our work."

"We will of course keep you up to date with how Kit Kat gets on and thank you for your support."

Win a chance to see Bonnie the grey seal pup to be released back to the wild -

The winner will be chosen at random on the 15th May at our Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday.

We need to get at least another 12kg or more on her to be fit enough for the wild and we are hoping this competition will help raise the funds to get that final weight on her and help with the care that she has had at the GSPCA.

The winner will be chosen just after 3pm at Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday on the 15th May.
