Barnacle Bill the loggerhead turtle finally leaves Guernsey thanks to Condor Ferries and Sea Life Brighton

On the 6th November 2023 a loggerhead turtle was washed up on the West Coast of Guernsey.

Barnacle Bill as the young turtle was called has since that time been in the care of the GSPCA.

On arrival she was very cold and weak but in the care of the Animal Shelter quickly improved and has been growing and putting weight on ever since.

RED WARNING EXTREME WIND - GSPCA Advice for your pets and wildlife with High Winds due

The GSPCA asks that you think of your animals with the extreme high winds due.

Bad weather means it is difficult for hedgehogs and wild birds to feed normally, and young seal pups can easily be separated from their mothers.

Also we have to ensure our pets are safe and we must think of those that live outside if they are safe and if any precautions need to be taken.

Saturday 21st December at the GSPCA our annual Christmas celebration takes place for all those that have done so much for animals and the community over the last year.

Dress code is Christmas themed and all staff, volunteers, friends, supporters and families are welcome to join us to celebrate all we have achieved during another busy year.

Children are also welcome and there will be lots to keep them entertained from space hoppers to tunnels to play in.

Happy Thanksgiving Day from the team at the GSPCA - surprising the team with an American theme

Todays morning break at the GSPCA some of the team thought we needed to add some Thanksgiving cheer to celebrate the day as one of our team originally across the pond was missing spending the day with friends and family.

Bow and Zimba the French Bulldogs looking for very special homes

Islanders and followers of the GSPCA will have seen the health challenges both Zimba and Bow two French Bulldogs have had to face.

As both improve and we know more about their challenges we are now looking for those looking to give them a loving home and the care they will need.

Seb Goman GSPCA Senior Animal Care Assistant said “Zimba and Bow are two very special French Bulldogs that came to the GSPCA with lots of health issues and will both need special care for all of their lives and we want to find them extra special homes willing to take on these challenges.”

13 New Cat First Aiders and new Dog First Aid date of Tuesday 10th December at the GSPCA

Each year at the GSPCA we hold Dog and Cat First Aid Courses.

For over a decade we have been running dog and cat first aid courses which help teach owners and pet lovers how to save the life of their pet or animal.

Last year we held our last Cat First Aid Course and greeted 13 attendees from Guernsey and Sark.

GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne who has over 27 years working in the field of animal rescue runs the training and with over 3000 animals through the doors every year at the GSPCA the team see cases of animal first aid on a daily basis here in Guernsey.
