With over 3000 stray, sick injured, wild, unwanted and cruelly treated animals through our doors every year we never know what to expect and yesterday was no exception.
For the first time in known history we were asked to take in two African Clawed Frogs.
Dozzer and Manfred as they are called are both 8 years old and sadly their owner could no longer care for them.
They are currently in a tank in the new building here at the GSPCA and in need of a very special home.
The GSPCA now have two new Christmas pin badge designs on sale.
Joining our Christmas robin we now have a snowman and gingerbread man on sale for only £2.
The pin badges are set on a festive GSPCA card with a Christmas greeting and the new designs also have some Guernsey French on them.
Not only are they on sale at the GSPCA maybe your shop, business, school or office could sell them with one of our counter box displays.
On Sunday the GSPCA took a stall along to the Les Cotils Christmas Fayre where we managed to raise £250.
After a wet windy day out in the weather on the Saturday the team enjoyed the warmth of Les Cotils and not only saw hundreds of visitors we even saw Santa pop by.
With all sorts of Christmas gifts on sale and games to play lots was raised for the animals at the Shelter.
We would like to thank all that organised and supported what was a lovely day.
Last week Ella Gidney and a group of her friends came along to the GSPCA for a Birthday guided tour.
Ella who has just turned 10 years of age got a very special behind the scenes tour with her friends at the Shelter in St Andrews.
On requests we will arrange a special tour for a minimum donation and last week Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager took the group around the site.
From seeing our resident tortoise to stroking Monkey a diabetic cat the girls all had a lovely evening.
One of the BIGGEST cases in our long history happened this year when 25 puppies which were from Slovakia were stopped at the harbour in very concerning conditions and were headed for the UK.
Shortly after we found out that all pups were to stay in Guernsey and be rehomed locally, photographer Liz Kerr came in to take a few pictures and has kindly put together a calendar for 2016 to raise funds for the GSPCA to help the hundreds of animals currently in our care.
2016 calendars starring the Slovakian puppies cost just £15 each.
The GSPCA currently has two vacancies that have become available at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
A full and part time weekend post working in a diverse role helping care for the animals at the Shelter, drive the ambulance, assist on reception and cover night duties at the GSPCA.
The full time post is primarily working with the dogs on kennels and the part time post helping primarily with the cats both posts will involve learning and assisting in all departments at the GSPCA
Last night the GSPCA welcomed 17 new volunteers into the team.
Sarah Creasey GSPCA Welfare & Education Officer and Sarah Ozanne Animal Care Assistant welcomed the group of new volunteers.
On what was a cold and dark evening new faces started arriving just after 6pm ready for the 6.30 start.
The two Sarah's gave a presentation on what we do at the GSPCA, how they can help and an induction in our rules and working safely for the GSPCA.
Yesterday a team of GSPCA volunteers headed to Beau Sejour to join the wonderful annual Round Table Christmas Fayre.
The team arrived and started to set up at 8am ready for the droves that arrived when the doors opened at 10am.
Helen Holmes, Jo Fox, Yvonne Chauvel, Joseph Fox, Ellie Fox and Steve Byrne were kept very busy all day serving the many customers who shopped for their gifts off our stall, Christmas cards, teddies and playing the many games we took along.
On Saturday the Grammar School held their annual Christmas Fayre.
A team of volunteers from the GSPCA attended with a stall and we would like to thank them and all that attended for their fantastic support.
In just two hours between 2pm and 4pm Steve Byrne, Jo Fox, Ellie Fox and Joseph Fox managed to raise just over £367 through the games and goods on the GSPCA stall.
With loads of fun things to do, plenty of stalls and of course Santa in his grotto a fun time was had by all.
