Last Winter the GSPCA received large number of calls from concerned members of public about horses and other animals in wet and muddy fields and once again we are preparing for a similar season with the current weather conditions.
Unfortunately due to the very wet Winter we had to endure here in Guernsey last year the GSPCA had a number of animals that were reported to the GSPCA in concerning conditions.
Lorna Prince GSPCA Animal Welfare Manager said ‘With such a wet Winter last year many animals were affected, both wild and domestic.’
24 Pupils from St Sampsons who have been learning about Peter Rabbit and 47 from Castel who have been learning about how to run their own Animal Shelter recently visited the GSPCA to find out about the work of the Shelter.
All three classes that visited were shown around the many departments by GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne who explained what the GSPCA did every day and tied in the talk with the subjects that the pupils were currently learning.
The GSPCA are always trying to ensure we match up the right animal for the right home.
Animals come into the Shelter for all sorts of reasons and we have to ensure each is suited to a home that can meet its needs.
The GSPCA is a self-supporting Guernsey charity and we depend on the people of the Island for the funding needed to maintain our work for the animal welfare and rescue work that is carried out 24 hours 7 days a week.
The normal adoption procedure is as follows:-
Last night Geoff George Animal Collection Officer accepted a very lucky lady who has been named Blondie.
Blondie is an adult, female, Hedgehog and was found just after a Bonfire had been lite last night in the Castel area.
Thankfully the finder acted quickly and rushed the her to the GSPCA and despite some very minor injuries she has done well during her first night at the GSPCA.
With only days until Sunday 22nd September and the Reservoir Dogs Sponsored Dog Walk have you got your shades at the ready?
Fear not the first 10 walkers to arrive will get a free pair of sunglasses which have been donated.
Meeting in Reservoir Rue Des Annevilles Car Park at 10am and finishing in Reservoir Rue A L’Or Car Park the walk around the Reservoir will have a Reservoir theme and we'd love to see you and your dog(s) all kitted out to make for a fun Sunday morning.
Not got a dog or can't bring it down on the 15th September or you have other pets at home then this is your chance to take part in a show without the need to bring them along.
We are asking pet owners to take pictures of their pets and for 50p per entry per class you can enter your cat, rabbit, horse, donkey, stick insect, tortoise, whatever it may be into a virtual pet show..
