Remembering a much loved member of the GSPCA team and family

Submitted by Steve on 11:39, 23rd Oct, 2015 | 0

It is with a very sad heart the GSPCA bring this message of the loss of one of our team.

One of the senior and longest standing members of staff at the GSPCA 'Richard Chandler' passed away recently and has left the team at the Shelter deeply saddened.

Richard was a wonderful man, who passionately cared for the Shelter and the team at the GSPCA and he will be sorely missed by all.

Today we would like to extend a huge thank you to Liz Kerr who popped in to take professional group pictures of 24 of the 25 Slovakian puppies with the team and volunteers at the GSPCA.

One pup was out on foster, but the other 24 joined GSPCA staff and volunteers for their first family picture in a group.

The puppies which have been in the GSPCA care for over 7 weeks are very soon to be officially rehomed and the team have been working through the hundreds of inquiries and applications.

Thank you to The Travel Corporation staff who helped at the GSPCA with a mountain of donations to puppy play time

Submitted by Steve on 23:07, 21st Oct, 2015 | 0

Today 6 staff from The Travel Corporation joined the team at the GSPCA and gave up a day in the office to help out.

The team of staff  arrived at 9am where they received a short induction before helping around site with the 300 animals at the Shelter in St Andrews and a mountain of donations.

A number of the group were versed in helping at the GSPCA after helping last and earlier this year so had a grasp on many of the roles but all were surprised with what they got to do.

At the GSPCA we clean out and care for 300 animals every day and you can now buy one of the leading disinfectants that we use at the Shelter.

To ensure we can thoroughly disinfect the animal accommodation’s at the GSPCA we use Angiene HLD4V High Level Surface Disinfectant made by Medi-Mark.

On sale at reception we have 1 litre self dosing at £9.10 and 5 litre containers for £20.33, but we do have 20 litre drums on request.

We also have odour eliminator sprays on sale for those owners with the fragrant pet.

Baby Barn Owl back in the wild

Submitted by Steve on 19:42, 20th Oct, 2015 | 0

Back in late July the GSPCA Ambulance Collection Officer Geoff George helped rescue a baby Barn Owl in Castel.

The young bird was severely thin and very close to loosing her life.

Thankfully with the skills of the team at the GSPCA and an intensive care unit the young bird was saved and nursed back to health.

After a period inside she was transferred to an outside aviary where she learnt to fly and forage for food.

As she grew stronger and her weight increased the GSPCA team monitored her progress with a wildlife camera.

Happy Birthday Amy - a special tour at the GSPCA

Submitted by Steve on 14:20, 17th Oct, 2015 | 0

Earlier today Amy and her 9 friends came up to the GSPCA for a Birthday guided tour.

Amy who has just turned 11 years of age asked her mum earlier in the year if she could have a tour at the GSPCA with her friends as part of her birthday.

At the Shelter we kindly obliged and for a donation of £50 Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager took the group around earlier today.

From seeing Wee Billy a young hedgehog to meeting the tortoise, stroking Monkey a diabetic cat to smelling the ferrets the girls all had a lovely day.

GSPCA’s multi-purpose accommodation opens with help from Sure

The GSPCA’s latest animal accommodation has been put through a phase of testing and is now open thanks to Sure and other build partners.

Sure’s Community Foundation made a donation of £2600 to the project in order to become a build partner following an application for funds from the GSPCA.

The new building has space for over 100 animals at any one time and the pens are able to be arranged in different formations to cater for different species.

Please send details & add your firework event to our Firework Calendar to help pet owners in Guernsey

Submitted by Steve on 11:21, 15th Oct, 2015 | 0

Every year the GSPCA are called out and receive stray dogs and cats during periods of fireworks that have either escaped or run off due to being scared by the loud bangs they make.

Last year the GSPCA launched our firework calendar which is an online record of firework displays and events which pet owners can easily visit to see the upcoming occasions which could scare their pets.
