On Wednesday 27th March 2019 Lydia Buckmaster the Training & Account Development Manager from Medimark Scientific Ltd visited Guernsey and the GSPCA to provide training to help with the cleaning process and understanding how to use Anigene disinfectant and similar products during the cleaning process safely and to prevent the spread of illness and disease.
In 2017 Rick Hayman Managing Director from Medimark Scientific Ltd came over to do a very similar talk and concentrating on the disease spread of the rabbit disease RHVD2 and how to help prevent spread it.
Last week a member of the GSPCA team joined the Dementia Friendly Guernsey Champions training session took place on Wednesday 6th March at CAMHS in the PEH.
The trainers from Dementia Friendly Guernsey were Julie Bulpitt and Mark Guilbert and the GSPCA Training and Community Officer Tim Pellett went along to take part.
Tim said “We had a very interactive day last week at the Dementia Friendly Guernsey Champion training.”
On Thursday 28th March we hold our first dog first aid course of 2019 at the GSPCA with a focus on helping save your dogs life.
Taking the course will be GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne who has over 20 years working in the field of animal rescue and with over 3000 animals through the doors every year at the GSPCA the team see cases of animal first aid on a daily basis here in Guernsey.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We have been running dog and cat first aid courses for over five years and have trained over 250 participants to help save animals lives.”
The GSPCA are hugely grateful to Nickie Browning the Fire Safety Officer for the States of Guernsey.
Last year Nickie helped the GSPCA update our fire safety procedures and last week she spent two mornings with the team to train them in safety procedures if there was an emergency or fire at the GSPCA.
On Tuesday we welcomed 9 attendees to our GSPCA dog first aid course at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
Despite a cold, windy and wet evening the group spent the evening in the training room at the GSPCA with Manager Steve Byrne.
The attendees learnt a wide variety of ways to help dogs from those suffering with heat exhaustion to those choking.
Betty an English Bull Terrier who is looking for a home made an appearance and the group learnt how to find a heart beat.
Due to popular demand at the GSPCA we are holding additional dog and cat first aid courses.

All courses are a minimum £15 donation and you must book your place by 12pm on the day of the training session.

BDMLR is a UK based marine animal rescue organisation.
They have over 3500 active Marine Mammal Medics around the UK and are the only such specialist organisation covering England, Scotland, Wales and the Channel Islands.
Once again the GSPCA have teamed up with the WEA to provide a course in animal care.
The new course is an 'Introduction to Animal Care and Welfare' and gives a taste of working in the many different departments at the GSPCA whilst learning about animal care, behaviour and a hands on experience.
The course is a 2 day workshop and for those taking part we would kindly ask that you have a basic knowledge in animal care.
