Next month we have our last dog and cat first aid training of 2025.

The cat course we have had to move from next week to Tuesday 18th November.

These are the last courses that will be £25 as they go up in 2026 having not been increased for many years.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We have had a great year training many islanders, businesses and groups in pet first aid this year and our last courses of 2025 are next month.”

“We have had to move the Cat First Aid training from next week to Tuesday 18th November.”

“To help with the training we have puppet Sid and resuscitation dog Casper join us to pass on skills of how to save dogs lives if ever they get into trouble or difficulty.”

“Despite the very serious subject we always have a lot of fun and we hand out certificates to all that attend and try to get a lovely picture.”

“The next Dog First Aid course is the 11th November and as mentioned the cat on the 18th and you can book your places now.”

“From Police Officers to GSPCA team members, members of the public to an assistance dog we have trained a real variety of individuals wanting to learn how to save dogs lives.”

“Those that have attended have learnt to save dogs, cats and other animals lives and although we hope those attending never have to use the skills at least they will now have the knowledge of what to do in many circumstances.”

“We have been running dog and cat first aid courses for over seven years and have trained over 550 participants to help save animals lives.”

"We have ‘Casper’ who is our model first aid dog a bit like the Annie doll many may know for humans and he is a great way to show and learn how to carry out CPR on an unconscious dog."

“We also have Sid the very famous hand puppet who was brought in as an injured animal himself to the GSPCA.”

“From dealing with dogs and cats chocking to heat stroke we cover a huge range of topics and life saving techniques that could really help save a pets life.”

“We always hope that the skills learned will not be needed but we have been told of circumstances of these skills helping in real life situations.”

"As owners of pets our worst fear is not knowing what to do if our four legged friend has an injury and this training helps pet owners learn and understand ways to help save your pets life."

“It is £25 per person for 2025 and you can book online or call 257261.”

“We have just released the dates for 2026 and there is a slight increase to £30 having not gone up for many years.”

“”Thank you to those that have booked so far and spaces are limited to book now to guarantee your place.”

The dates for the first aid courses are:

2026 Will be £30 per person

All first aid courses are a minimum £25 donation for 2025 and for 2026 £30 per person and you must book your place by 5pm before the course.

Within the sessions you get the chance to learn about what to do if you were faced with an emergency situation with your dog or cat.  All participants receive handouts, a few goodies and a certificate.
