Over the last two months students from the Guernsey College Access Course have been volunteering at the GSPCA.
Each week they have been giving up an afternoon in the classroom to attend the GSPCA to help with work around the Animal Shelter and care for the 500+ animals.
Tim Pellett GSPCA Community and Training Officer said “The Guernsey College Access Course students have been a great help at the GSPCA.”
“From walking the dogs to feeding the many rabbits the Guernsey College Access Course have helped in many areas around the GSPCA.”
Over the last month the GSPCA have been delighted and extremely grateful to all of the help from the Guernsey Adults with Leaning Disabilities who have been helping out at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
On their first day last month they were met by the GSPCA Community and Training Officer Tim Pellett who gave them an induction and then able working alongside the Work to Benefit workforce they have helped with many tasks around the GSPCA.
On the 19th October 3 staff from Man Fund Management (Guernsey) Limited attended the GSPCA to give up a day in the office to help with the work around the Shelter.
The day was started with a quick induction followed by a picture at the front of the GSPCA.
They were then put to work helping paint a container next to our Memorial Garden which was in desperate need of a spruce up.
Last night we held our 12th volunteer induction and greeted 23 new helpful faces eager to help the animals and work of the GSPCA.
This year alone we have now inducted 170 new volunteers, placements and work through these inductions and are graced with an average 120 volunteers each week but with over 500 animals in our care there is always plenty to do.
On Saturday 13th October 2018, Scouts from the 3rd St. Martins Cub Scout group came to the GSPCA to help out at the Shelter and gain hours towards their badges in Community Impact, Environmental Conservation and World Challenge awards.
The 9 Scouts, guided by parent volunteers, were able to give a good tidy both the GSPCA Memorial Garden and the Poison Garden and duck pond walkway of leaves and weeds.
On Monday we held our 11th volunteer induction and greeted 15 new helpful faces eager to help the animals and work of the GSPCA.
This year alone we have inducted 147 new volunteers, placements and work through these inductions and are graced with an average 120 volunteers each week but with over 500 animals in our care there is always plenty to do.

All are welcome, although for those wanting to help onsite at the Shelter the minimum age is 13.
Tonight at 6.30pm we hold our tenth volunteer induction of 2018 and we have inducted through these alone 118 new volunteers, placements and work experience since the start of the year.

For volunteers under 13 we have a huge amount of events taking place which they can help at with a parent or guardian.
The GSPCA has had a great time at all of the Summer Shows and especially so at the West and North Show thanks to some amazing volunteers from Northern Trust.
On Wednesday 4 staff from Northern Trust helped on our stall at the West Show and 5 on the Thursday and at the North Show 4 helped on the Wednesday and an amazing 9 volunteers on the Thursday.
