We are now up to 19 Giant Animal Mascots for the Giant Animal Mascot Race for the Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday.
Have you chosen yours?
With another 40 suits to fill the film strip pictured are those still yet to get an owner for the races that are due to start at 1pm on the day.
Whether your a business with a keen staff member or just chatting to your friends down the pub its a great race, raising funds to help animals in Guernsey.
Not got a dog or can't bring it down on the 15th September or you have other pets at home then this is your chance to take part in a show without the need to bring them along.
We are asking pet owners to take pictures of their pets and for 50p per entry per class you can enter your cat, rabbit, horse, donkey, stick insect, tortoise, whatever it may be into a virtual pet show..
With only a month to go we have plenty of suits still available for the Giant Animal Mascot Race.
Last year we had nearly 40 racers and this yer we are hoping for more.
Whether your a business with a keen staff member or just chatting to your friends down the pub its a great race, raising funds to help animals in Guernsey.
For only a minimum £50 sponsorship we supply the suit and you can race from the Ship and Crown to Town Church and back with all the funny props we have lined up from spinning plates to inflatable eggs and spoons.
If you are going down to the West Show today or tomorrow keep an eye open for the Giant Animal Mascots who are collecting for the GSPCA.
They are being manned by volunteers and also staff from KPMG who are helping the GSPCA at the Show and at the Shelter over the next few days.
The suits they are manning are those available for the GSPCA Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday Giant Animal Mascot Race which takes place on the 15th September.
Today Shelter staff and volunteers had the pleasure of a local expert in Gulls give a talk on their movements, the tracking of them and their behaviour.
Paul Veron who has been ringing birds since 1976 and has rung over 53,000 himself since starting has a wealth of knowledge that he shared with the GSPCA team before they started their work.
Paul talked primarily about the movements and ringing work of the Herring Gull, Black Back Gull and Lesser Back Gull all of which breed around the Bailiwick.
Last Wednesday we had our second Volunteer Induction Evening which was even more popular than the first.
With 24 in attendance and 18 wanting to sign up as volunteers the GSPCA welcomed the group into the family.
From those wanting to help muck out to those wanting to fund raise they arrived and were welcomed at the Shelter before having a presentation and talk about the work we carry out as well as an Induction to enable them to work safely at the Shelter and during our events.
This Sunday the 14th July 2013 at the Bon Port Hotel we would like to invite you to Labradog Day, a day to celebrate Labradors in Guernsey.
Organised by Cherry Dewey we are asking labrador owners from around the Bailiwick to come along with their Labradors for a fun filled afternoon.
We are also trying to get as many Labradors from around the island so we can get a phot of them all together.
The day includes -
The GSPCA helps care for and rescue thousands of animals every year and without our wonderful volunteers we really couldn't do it.
From cleaning kennels to fundraising there are dozens of roles for volunteers to help the GSPCA and next Wednesday we have our second Volunteer Welcome and Induction Evening.
With the success of the first last month which drew a crowd of 18 new volunteers to the Shelter the second is planned for 6.30pm on the 17th July.
We would like to thank everyone that has donated towards Nouska the Husky's operation so far.
Nouskas is going for his operation on Wednesday and we are all keeping our fingers crossed for this lovely lad.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said 'We are so grateful to everyone that has donated towards Nouska's operation.'
'It is estimated that it will cost over £1000 with everything and we can announce that since last Wednesday the full estimated amount has been raised and thank everyone for their support.'
