Dog owners around the Bailiwick each day enjoy our stunning islands while walking their dogs and today is #WalkingYourDogDay

We would normally have an average 30-40 dogs in our care at the GSPCA but as people are unable to travel due to Covid we only see a small number of boarding dogs and thankfully very few needing to be rehomed.

This has hit our income greatly as our boarding helps raise half of the running costs of the GSPCA so we are asking if you could do a sponsored event to raise funds for our 24/7 work.

Maybe you could set a dog walk challenge such as walking 21 miles over a week so you are doing a 3 mile walk once a day. Maybe you could do a sponsored silence or shave, give up something or sponsored cycle there are so many ideas and fun things to do help raise funds for the many animals in our care.

Once you’ve got you idea although you can’t currently ask people with a sponsor form you can set up an online giving page through and to do so just click on this link and you can find GSPCA in the drop down section.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Today is #WalkingYourDogDay and over the years we have held many sponsored dog walks to raise funds for the animals in our care, but sadly this is not going to be able to be done currently as we are in lockdown.”

“Saying this there is nothing stopping those wanting to support our 24/7 work by organising their very own fund raiser.”

“For those with dogs they could do a personal sponsored walk challenge or there are lots of ideas and ways to raise funds and with the website and social media even though we aren’t able to see friends and family you can still share what you are doing and encourage them to support your cause.”

“The GSPCA before Covid was bustling with volunteers and team members walking dozens of dogs multiple times a day but with the restrictions we have very few boarding pets which has halved our normal income for the Shelter.”

“With few fund raisers and next to no boarding due to lockdown the GSPCA income has been hit hard and we need your support now more than ever.”

“There are many ways you can help support our vital 24/7 work and donate or raise funds for the hundreds of animals in our care.”

“With over 140 hedgehogs, 3 seal pups, dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets, fish, reptiles and many birds we help over 3000 animals through the doors every year.”

“With so many animals in our care we would love you to join our sponsor scheme to help us each month.”

“Just a couple of pounds each month can make a massive difference in helping the animals in our care and to find out more please go to .”

“We couldn’t do so much without your support and here a few other ideas of how you can help us help animals in Guernsey.”
