9‑Year‑Old Edward Wilson Raises £92 for the GSPCA Through Handmade Amigurumi Animals
The GSPCA is delighted to recognise the wonderful efforts of Edward Wilson, aged just 9 years old, who has raised an incredible £92 for the charity through his unique handmade animal characters.
Edward, with help from his Dad, creates amigurumi – small Japanese crochet animals – each carrying a positive message. Recently, Edward set up a stall at The Friquet Garden Centre, where he sold around 50 of these beautifully crafted characters. With amazing generosity, Edward chose to donate 50% of the profits from the stall to the GSPCA to support the animals in the charity’s care.
During a visit to the GSPCA, Manager Steve Byrne welcomed Edward and his Dad to the Shelter, where they were able to see several of the recently rescued grey seal pups from a safe distance, including Blizzard, Iceberg Lettuce, Ice Ice Baby and Icicle. Edward, who has a huge love for animals, was thrilled that the crochet characters he creates are also animals – making the fundraising effort even more meaningful.
Quote from Edward Wilson (aged 9)
“I love animals and I thought this would help and care for them. I’m quite proud that I’ve managed to raise some money for them and hope it makes a difference.”
Quote from Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager
“Edward is an inspiring young fundraiser, and we are so grateful for his kindness, creativity, and generosity. His amigurumi animals are absolutely wonderful, and seeing a young person put so much effort into helping real animals in need truly warms our hearts.
Every donation helps us continue our work, from seal pups to cats, wildlife and so much more. Edward’s support will directly help animals currently in our care, and we cannot thank him enough for making such a positive difference.*”
