Amazing Cycling Challenge Raises Over £1,350 for Animal Charities

The GSPCA would like to say a huge thank you to local animal lover Ann Bowditch, who has completed an incredible cycling challenge from Land's End to John O'Groats, raising more than £1,350 for animal charities including the GSPCA and another local organisation that helps reunite lost pets with their owners.

Ann undertook the challenge as a solo rider, supported by a dedicated support team, covering approximately 1,000 miles and an astonishing 40,000 feet of climbing in just nine days.

The challenge tested both physical and mental endurance, but Ann remained focused on raising funds and awareness for charities that work tirelessly to help animals.

Ann said:

"Overall, I completed approximately 1,000 miles and around 40,000 feet of climbing in nine days as a solo ride, with a support team.

Raising over £1,350 for animal charities. The money has been distributed to the charities but the links are still open if anyone would like to donate.

I have seven rescue cats and most of them wouldn't have survived without the help of rescues. For me, this ride was about the fundraising and helping rescues who struggle financially. The costs of saving lives is huge.

I am massively grateful for the encouragement and support I received throughout the nine days and the generosity of donations. Animals cannot speak for themselves, so it is up to us to help as much as we can."

The challenge attracted support and encouragement from friends, family, animal lovers and supporters throughout the journey, helping Ann reach her fundraising target while shining a spotlight on the important work carried out by animal welfare charities.

GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne said:

"Everyone at the GSPCA would like to say a huge thank you and congratulations to Ann on completing such an amazing challenge. Cycling around 1,000 miles with 40,000 feet of climbing in just nine days is an incredible achievement and we are extremely grateful that she chose to support the GSPCA and another local animal charity through her efforts."

"The funds raised will help support our work rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming animals and wildlife across the Bailiwick. Ann's dedication and determination are truly inspiring and show how one person can make a real difference for animals."

Steve added:

"There are so many ways people can support the GSPCA, whether that's taking part in a fundraising challenge like Ann, organising an event, becoming a volunteer, making a donation, leaving a legacy gift, supporting our shops or helping our ongoing #GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal. Every pound raised helps us continue caring for thousands of animals each year.

"As we continue building our new Wildlife Hospital and planning for the future of animal welfare in Guernsey, support from incredible fundraisers like Ann makes a huge difference. We are enormously thankful to everyone who chooses to help animals through the GSPCA."

The charity is always keen to hear from anyone interested in organising a fundraiser, whether it is a sporting challenge, coffee morning, sponsored event, school project, workplace initiative or community fundraiser.
