Artex Risk Team Lends a Helping Hand at the GSPCA
The GSPCA was delighted to welcome a team of 14 volunteers from Artex to the Animal Shelter yesterday, with the group giving their time, energy and expertise to support the charity's animals and facilities.
Arriving at 9am, the team were greeted by GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne and Training and Community Officer Tim Pellett. After a group photograph outside the Shelter, the volunteers were soon hard at work helping in a variety of roles across the site.
Throughout the day the Artex team assisted with exercising dogs, cleaning and caring for animals, carrying out a major spring clean in the main store room, gardening around the Shelter grounds and helping improve several areas of the site. The team also brought along brushes, rollers, paints and wood stain to help with ongoing improvements to the GSPCA's main kennel build. Not content with that, they also supplied flowers and plants to brighten the Shelter grounds and reception area.
Training and Community Officer Tim Pellett said:
"What a brilliant bunch today from Artex. As well as bringing brushes, rollers, paints and wood stain, they even went back out and bought some perennials for the feature outside reception. Their enthusiasm and willingness to help was fantastic, and they made a huge difference to the Shelter in just one day."
GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne added:
"A huge thank you to everyone from Artex for giving up their time to help the GSPCA. They tackled every task with smiles on their faces, worked incredibly hard and made a real impact across the Shelter. From helping care for our animals to improving our facilities and grounds, their support has been invaluable."
"This is not the first time Artex have stepped forward to help local charities. Last year they were amazing supporters of the Dolphin Discovery Trail, helping us create a hugely successful community event that raised significant funds for good causes. To see them back again supporting the GSPCA with such enthusiasm has been wonderful, and we cannot thank them enough."
Corporate and group volunteer days continue to play an important role in helping the GSPCA care for thousands of animals each year. Whether helping with animal care, maintenance projects, gardening or fundraising events, volunteer groups provide valuable support whilst enjoying a rewarding team-building experience.
The GSPCA is encouraging more businesses, organisations and community groups to consider taking part in volunteer days, as well as supporting the charity in other ways. The charity's current appeals include the #GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal, which is helping fund the construction of the new Wildlife Hospital and improved facilities, and an urgent appeal to replace two essential animal ambulances that help rescue and transport sick, injured and vulnerable animals across Guernsey.

Steve Byrne said:
"Every gift, donation, volunteer hour and act of kindness helps us continue our work for Guernsey's animals. Whether supporting our wish lists, donating towards our new Wildlife Hospital, helping us replace our ambulances or volunteering your time, every contribution makes a difference. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who supports the GSPCA and helps us care for animals in need."
