Band's Unofficial World Record Attempt Set to Benefit the GSPCA – huge thanks to the members of Coastal Fire Dept. from all at the GSPCA
The GSPCA would like to say a huge thank you to local band Coastal Fire Dept. for choosing the charity as the beneficiary of their latest musical release and unofficial world record attempt.
Yesterday, the band launched their new single, Don't Let The Fire Go Out, which they describe as unofficially the shortest single ever released and potentially the shortest grunge track ever recorded. In keeping with their theme of releasing increasingly shorter songs, the track was created as a fun challenge while also carrying a positive message about never letting your passion for the things you enjoy fade away.
The band announced that any funds raised through the release on Bandcamp and YouTube will be donated to the GSPCA to help support the charity's vital renovation and rebuild projects, as well as the ongoing rescue and rehabilitation work carried out for wildlife, including seals found around the Channel Islands' coastline.
The launch attracted significant attention, with the band featuring on BBC Radio Guernsey yesterday before being invited to appear on BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast this morning to discuss their unofficial world record attempt.
GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne said:
"We are incredibly grateful to Coastal Fire Dept. for choosing to support the GSPCA through such a unique and creative fundraising initiative. It is wonderful to see people using their talents and passions to help local charities, and we wish the band every success with their unofficial world record attempt."
Steve added:
"The support we receive from the community constantly amazes us. People help in so many different ways, whether through volunteering, fundraising events, corporate support, donations, sponsored challenges, or, in this case, releasing what could be the shortest single ever made. Every bit of support helps us care for thousands of animals each year and move closer to completing our new Wildlife Hospital and facilities."
He continued:
"As far as we know, this could also be another unofficial record in itself, as it may well be the first music single released specifically in aid of the GSPCA. We are honoured that the band chose us as their charity and thankful for the kind words they shared about our work caring for animals, including the many seal rescues we undertake around our islands."
The band thanked listeners for their support and acknowledged Cobra Firing Systems for their involvement in creating the explosive effect featured as part of the project.
The GSPCA's ambitious rebuilding programme, including the new Wildlife Hospital, will help ensure the charity can continue rescuing, rehabilitating and caring for animals for many years to come. Support from innovative fundraising efforts such as this plays an important role in helping make those plans a reality.
