Calf Safely Returned to Land Following Bordeaux Quarry Rescue
The GSPCA was called to assist with a stranded calf at Bordeaux yesterday, with the young animal safely returned to land following a brief rescue effort.
GSPCA Ambulance and Warden Driver Luke Roussell attended the incident after concerns were raised that the calf had become stranded in a quarry. Upon arrival, Luke found that the farmer was already on scene and working to help the animal in a small boat.
Luke assisted the farmer with recovering the calf and, thankfully, despite its unexpected adventure, the young calf appeared unharmed and was soon back on dry land.
The GSPCA was pleased to be able to assist and ensure the calf was safe and well following the incident.
GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne said:
"We were very happy to help when the call came in and it's always great when an incident has a positive outcome. By the time Luke arrived, the farmer was already assisting the calf and together they were able to get it safely back onto land.”
"Thankfully the calf appeared none the worse for wear after its ordeal and was quickly reunited with the rest of the herd. We'd like to thank everyone involved for their quick response.”

The charity continues to provide a 24-hour emergency response service across Guernsey, assisting domestic animals, farm animals and wildlife whenever help is needed.
Whilst many call-outs involve straightforward rescues and reunions, the GSPCA says every incident highlights the importance of rapid response and cooperation between animal owners, farmers, the public and the charity's rescue team.
