Celebrate National Rescue Dog Day with the GSPCA – Give a Dog a Second Chance
The GSPCA is inviting islanders to celebrate National Rescue Dog Day by considering giving a loving home to a dog in need. With a range of wonderful characters currently waiting for adoption, now is the perfect time to make a life-changing difference—for both you and a rescue dog.
Among those seeking their forever homes are Jasper, a delightful dachshund cross chihuahua with a big personality, and Simba, a one-year-old cross breed bursting with energy and affection. Both dogs are just two of the many who would thrive in caring homes.
In addition to dogs within the Shelter, the GSPCA also helps rehome pets through its direct Home to Home service, where dogs remain with their current owners until a suitable match is found. These opportunities are regularly shared on the GSPCA’s social media pages, helping even more animals find loving homes within the community.
Why not share your rescue dogs story and picture on our social media channels.....

Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager, said:
“National Rescue Dog Day is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the incredible difference adopting can make. Each year, through our Animal Shelter and Home to Home service, we help between 20 and 50 dogs find loving new homes, and we support many more—from strays and cruelty cases to dogs boarding with us.
As proud members of the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes, we are part of a wider network that collectively helps hundreds of thousands of dogs and cats every year. Every adoption really matters, and we are so grateful to our community for continuing to open their hearts and homes to animals in need.”

Seb Goman, Welfare Officer and Senior Animal Care Assistant, added:
“Simba and Jasper are both fantastic dogs with so much love to give, and we can’t wait to see them settled in homes of their own. One of our favourite parts of the year is seeing rescue dogs take part in our Fun Dog Shows, especially in the Rescue class—it’s a brilliant celebration of second chances.
We’ve already had two fantastic shows this month, and we’re looking forward to our next event in August at the South Show, where we hope to see more amazing rescue stories in the ring.”
The GSPCA reminds everyone that adopting a rescue dog not only changes that animal’s life—it can bring immeasurable joy and companionship in return.
Steve continued “If you’re ready to welcome a new best friend, now is the perfect time to take the first step.”
