Tomorrow (Tuesday 21st May 2019) seal pups Sealia and Gully will be released back in the waters where they belong.

Both were found close to death starving with a number of ailments and after months of care will be released on Jethou thanks to Island Rib Voyages and the kind team that live on Jethou.

This will leave two Guernsey seal pups Mambo and Hannah who improve daily and Andrew from Jersey.

This has been the busiest year for grey seal pups the GSPCA has seen and there are many ways to support them this week for joining in our #GSPCACupcakeWeek by making, baking and selling cake to raise funds to joining in or supporting our Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday this weekend.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We are very much looking forward getting Sealia and Gully back to the waters they belong tomorrow.”

“Both were extremely emaciated when they were rescued and it is wonderful to see how well they are now.”

“We are very much looking forward sharing the updates on their release tomorrow.”

Geoff George GSPCA Animal Collection Officer and Head of Marine Mammals said “Sealia is up to 48kgs and Gully 54 kgs so both 4 times their rescue weights so are all ready to be released.”

“We had a fantastic Jersey release with Marty and is will be great to see Sealia and Gully back in the wild.”

“We will still have three hungry seals to feed so all donations are very welcome and with the need of building a new Wildlife Hospital and there are many ways to support this much needed facility.”

Steve continued “It’s a busy week at the GSPCA with our #GSPCACupcakeWeek and upcoming Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday so many ways to support our 24/7 work.”

“A huge thanks to all that have supported the care of Sealia and Gully and of course all from Jethou and Island Rib Voyages who are helping with the release.”
