Grant Thornton Team Lends a Helping Hand at the GSPCA
The GSPCA was delighted to welcome a team of volunteers from Grant Thornton yesterday, who spent the day helping staff care for animals and support the charity's vital work at the Shelter in St Andrews.
The day began with Ella and Cindy arriving at the GSPCA, where they were welcomed by GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne and Training and Community Officer Tim Pellett. After an introduction to the charity and its work, they rolled up their sleeves and assisted with caring for the many animals at the shelter, as well as helping exercise the dogs in the GSPCA's care.
In the afternoon, Ashley, Sam, Catalina and Salesha took over the volunteering duties and were soon hard at work helping with some much-needed spring cleaning in the kennels. The team also helped wash the GSPCA's animal ambulances, which transport thousands of sick, injured and orphaned animals every year across Guernsey.
GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne said:
"We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone from Grant Thornton who gave up their time to help us yesterday. From caring for animals and exercising dogs to cleaning kennels and washing our ambulances, every task they completed makes a real difference to our staff, volunteers and, most importantly, the animals in our care. They worked incredibly hard throughout the day and were a pleasure to have at the shelter."
Training and Community Officer Tim Pellett added:
"Corporate volunteer days are such a valuable way for businesses to support local charities. The Grant Thornton team got stuck into every task with enthusiasm and energy, helping us achieve jobs that can often be difficult to fit into our busy daily schedule. We are extremely grateful for all their hard work and support."
The GSPCA encourages other businesses, organisations and community groups to consider taking part in a corporate volunteering day. These opportunities allow teams to give back to the community while helping the charity care for thousands of animals each year.
There are many ways businesses and groups can support the GSPCA, including volunteering, supporting items on the charity's wish list, fundraising, sponsoring projects or helping with the GSPCA's current appeal for two replacement animal ambulances. The charity's existing ambulances are heavily relied upon and are frequently in need of repairs due to the high volume of animal rescues and welfare callouts undertaken each year.

The GSPCA would once again like to thank Ella, Cindy, Ashley, Sam, Catalina and Salesha from Grant Thornton for their time, enthusiasm and hard work supporting the animals and staff at the shelter. Their efforts demonstrate how much can be achieved when local businesses and charities work together for the benefit of the community and animal welfare.
