GSPCA’s Yvonne Chauvel Named Finalist in Prestigious National ADCH & Petplan Animal Welfare Awards
The Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA) is proud to announce that Yvonne Chauvel, Animal Care Supervisor, has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes (ADCH) and Petplan Animal Welfare Awards.
The awards are widely regarded as among the most prestigious in the animal welfare sector, celebrating outstanding individuals who go above and beyond for animals, the charities they work for, and the communities they serve.
Yvonne, who celebrated 30 years of service with the GSPCA last year, is known for her unwavering commitment and passion for animal welfare. As a full‑time supervisor, she is often the first to arrive and the last to leave, caring not only for the charity’s dedicated team but also for the thousands of animals that pass through the GSPCA’s care.
Her work spans every corner of animal welfare, from reuniting stray pets with their owners and ensuring baby birds receive the specialist care they need, to helping with seal pups, sea turtles, and hand‑rearing feral kittens. Over the years, Yvonne has also played a vital role in supporting staff, volunteers, work‑experience students, placements, visitors, voluntourists and even birthday groups, making her a much‑loved and respected figure within the organisation and the wider community.
This is not Yvonne’s first time being recognised at the awards, having previously been named a finalist in 2014. However, due to adverse weather conditions at the time, she was unable to attend the ceremony.
Speaking about her latest nomination, Yvonne Chauvel said:
“I feel incredibly humbled to be shortlisted for such a prestigious award. To be recognised alongside so many amazing people working in animal welfare really means a lot. I’m very much looking forward to attending the awards evening during the ADCH Conference next month and representing the GSPCA and Guernsey.”
GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne said the nomination was richly deserved:
“We are all immensely proud of Yvonne. Her dedication, compassion and tireless commitment over three decades have touched the lives of thousands of animals and countless people. This recognition reflects not just what Yvonne has done in the past, but what she continues to do every single day for the GSPCA, the animals in our care and our community.”
The awards ceremony will take place during the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes (ADCH) Conference next month, bringing together leading animal welfare organisations from across the UK and beyond.

#GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal Update
The GSPCA Wildlife Hospital, part of the #GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal, continues to progress impressively. The west wing roof trusses are now complete, giving a striking preview of the future facility, and the east wing roof trusses are scheduled to begin very soon.
With the project now at its halfway point, the GSPCA is encouraging supporters to join the appeal by:
- Donating to the Build Fund
- Sponsoring a room, kennel, aviary, or specialised unit
- Supporting sustainability upgrades, including planned solar panel installations
- Taking part in events or community fundraising
- Leaving a gift or message of support via giving.gg
Every contribution supports the future of wildlife rescue in Guernsey for generations to come.
