The North Show returns this week to Saumarez Park, bringing two days of celebration, community spirit, and entertainment. The GSPCA is proud to be part of the event once again, with our stall open on Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st August, featuring games, GSPCA goods for sale, and our popular tombola with cuddly teddies to be won. We’re joined by wonderful volunteers, including those from Northern Trust, helping raise funds and awareness for animal welfare across the Bailiwick.
As part of our presence, we’re also sharing information and images about the GSPCA’s Biggest Build Appeal, which aims to transform facilities and care for animals in need.
However, we’d like to remind pet owners that the North Show Firework Display is scheduled for Thursday 21st August at 9:50pm, and fireworks can be extremely distressing for many animals.

“We love being part of the North Show and thank the organisers for another fantastic event. We’re especially grateful to our volunteers, including those from Northern Trust, who help make our stall such a success. But we also want to remind pet owners to take precautions during the firework display. Fireworks can cause fear and anxiety in pets, and it’s important to keep them safe and calm. We encourage everyone to visit our stall, learn more about our work, and check out our advice page for tips on keeping animals safe during fireworks.”

Top Tips to Keep Pets Safe During Fireworks
- Keep pets indoors and close windows and curtains.
- Create a quiet, comfortable space with familiar bedding and toys.
- Play calming music or white noise to mask firework sounds.
- Ensure pets are microchipped and wearing ID tags in case they panic and escape.
- Avoid walking dogs during firework times.
- Speak to your vet if your pet suffers from severe anxiet
