GSPCA Appeal for Replacement Emergency iPhone

The GSPCA is appealing for the donation of a replacement iPhone to help support the charity's 24-hour emergency animal rescue service.

The current Emergency iPhone, which is used day and night to respond to calls about sick, injured and distressed animals, has started to develop issues after years of constant use.

The phone is a vital lifeline for the charity's emergency response service and is relied upon 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by staff, volunteers and night wardens dealing with animal emergencies across Guernsey. The GSPCA is currently experiencing exceptionally high numbers of wildlife admissions, including dozens of wild rabbits suffering from myxomatosis every day and night, alongside hedgehogs, seabirds, garden birds and other wildlife requiring urgent care. GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne said:

"Our Emergency iPhone is one of the most important pieces of equipment we have. Every day and night it receives calls from members of the public reporting sick, injured and orphaned wildlife, as well as emergencies involving domestic animals."

"The phone is heavily used 24 hours a day and unfortunately it has started to develop problems. With the huge number of wildlife emergencies we are currently dealing with, including dozens of rabbits suffering from myxomatosis coming into our care, we urgently need a reliable replacement."

"A donated iPhone, whether new or in excellent condition, would make a massive difference to our rescue service and help ensure we never miss an emergency call when an animal needs help."

"Every call could mean the difference between life and death for an animal, so having dependable equipment is absolutely essential."

As well as appealing for an iPhone, the GSPCA is encouraging islanders to look at the charity's online wish list where there are many ways to help the animals in their care. The charity regularly requires items including dog and hedgehog food, cat food, bird seed, small animal feed, cat litter, towels, blankets, nitrile gloves, washing powder, Fairy Liquid for cleaning oiled birds, hand soap and many other day-to-day essentials.

Steve added:

"The support we receive from the community is incredible and helps us continue caring for thousands of animals every year. Whether it is donating an iPhone, purchasing an item from our wish list or supporting our #GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal , every contribution makes a real difference."

"As we continue building for the future through our Wildlife Hospital and other major projects, we rely heavily on donations of equipment and supplies to keep our rescue and rehabilitation work going every single day."

The GSPCA's #GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal aims to create much-needed new facilities including a Wildlife Hospital, Welfare Kennels and Ferret Unit to help the thousands of animals that need the charity's assistance each year.

Anyone able to donate an iPhone or help with any of the items on the GSPCA Wish List is asked to contact the GSPCA on 01481 257261, email [email protected], or visit the charity's wish list and appeal pages online.
