The GSPCA is launching an urgent appeal for funds and forever homes for four very special cats, including Spud, a brave young kitten who has overcome incredible odds and currently recovering from an operation at the vets from a blockage.

To donate to Spud who is at the vets and those in our care go to https://giving.gg/donate/charity/2/Guernsey-Society-for-the-Prevention-of-Cruelty-to-Animals-(GSPCA)

To complete an adoption application please go to https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=gspca&method=online_form_html&formid=23

Spud arrived at the GSPCA with his mum Daisy and littermates Tulip and Daffodil, rescued by our ambulance driver. At just a few weeks old, Spud was in a coma, and his recovery has been nothing short of miraculous. Sadly, all four kittens have inherited feline herpes from their mum, a condition that causes cold-like symptoms throughout their lives. As a result, they will need indoor-only homes to keep them safe and healthy.

This week, Spud faced another challenge when he was rushed to the vets with a serious blockage requiring emergency treatment. His vet bill is expected to exceed £700, with additional ongoing care costs. While Spud is recovering well, he’s not quite ready for adoption—but those interested in giving him a loving home can register their interest by completing the online adoption form.

Quotes from the GSPCA Team

Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager, said:

“Spud is a little miracle. From being in a coma to causing mischief and making us laugh, he’s a fighter with a huge personality. We’re doing everything we can to help him recover and he is currently at the vets, but we need the community’s support to cover his vet bills and find loving homes for him and his family.”

Anna Paint, Head of the GSPCA Cattery, added:

“Daisy, Tulip, Daffodil, and Spud have had a tough start, but they’re full of love and character. They deserve safe, warm homes where they can thrive. We’re appealing to anyone who can help—whether through donations or adoption—to come forward and make a difference

Spud may be cheeky and naughty, but he’s also incredibly lovable. His antics bring joy to the team, and we know he’ll do the same for the right family. Please help us give Spud and his family the future they deserve.
