GSPCA Appeals for Weekend Staff and Volunteers Following One of the Busiest Summers on Record
The GSPCA is appealing for additional weekend staff and volunteers to help care for the many animals coming through its doors during what has become one of the busiest summers the charity has experienced.
With increasing numbers of wildlife rescues, dogs, cats and other animals needing assistance, the charity is seeking caring and dedicated people to join its team and support its vital 24/7 animal welfare work.
There are a variety of opportunities available, including dog walking, cat care and cleaning, wildlife support, reception and front desk duties, and evening and weekend roles helping the charity continue its around-the-clock service to animals in need across Guernsey.

GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne said:
"This summer has been one of the busiest we have seen, especially at weekends when so many islanders are out enjoying the coast, countryside and gardens and come across animals needing help. Our team is responding to a huge number of wildlife rescues as well as caring for the many dogs, cats and other animals at the Shelter.”
"The recent warm weather and heatwaves have also put extra pressure on wildlife, with many animals struggling to find enough water and food. We would encourage islanders, where possible, to leave fresh water and suitable food out for wildlife, particularly during dry and hot periods. It is important that any bowls, feeding stations or feeders are cleaned regularly to help prevent the spread of disease.”
"To continue providing our essential 24/7 service, we are looking for both staff and volunteers who can spare some time to help. Whether it is walking dogs, cleaning cat pens, assisting with wildlife care, helping on reception or supporting evening and weekend shifts, every pair of hands makes a real difference.”

The GSPCA cares for thousands of animals every year and provides a 24-hour rescue service for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife as well as domestic animals in need. The charity is encouraging anyone interested in becoming part of the team to apply and help support animal welfare across the Bailiwick.
