GSPCA are back again for this years Torteval Scarecrow Festival this weekend

The GSPCA is once again preparing to take part in the popular Torteval Scarecrow Festival, which takes place this weekend and promises another fantastic celebration of creativity, community spirit and family fun.

The charity has supported the event for many years thanks to the kindness of a local Torteval family who continue to provide a location for the GSPCA's annual entry.

While the team is keeping this year's design firmly under wraps ahead of the festival, one person has once again been leading the way behind the scenes – Seb Goman, Head of the GSPCA's unofficial "Scarecrow Design Department".

Seb, who has been part of the GSPCA team for ten years, has once again been coordinating the charity's entry with support from fellow staff members and volunteers.

Seb Goman said:

"The Torteval Scarecrow Festival is always great fun and something we all look forward to every year. We have a wonderful team effort putting our entry together and we're really pleased with what we've created. We don't want to give too much away, though, as we'd much rather encourage people to come along and see all the amazing scarecrows for themselves. It's such a brilliant community event and there is always so much creativity on display."

The Torteval Scarecrow Festival has become one of Guernsey's most loved community events, attracting visitors from across the island each year to explore the parish and discover the wide variety of imaginative displays created by local residents, charities, businesses and community groups.

GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne said:

"The Scarecrow Festival is one of those fantastic Guernsey events that brings communities together and puts smiles on people's faces. We have been proud to support it for many years and it gives our team a chance to have a bit of fun and showcase their creativity away from their normal day-to-day animal welfare work."

Steve added:

"At the GSPCA we always try to support community events wherever we can, whether that's the Scarecrow Festival, the Island Shows, charity events, educational visits or local fundraisers. These events help bring people together and raise awareness of the work charities and community groups carry out across Guernsey."

As well as taking part in the Torteval Scarecrow Festival, the GSPCA will be attending the island's summer shows and a variety of other events throughout the year.

The charity is also encouraging anyone who would like to get involved with its work to consider volunteering.

Steve Byrne said:

"Our volunteers are absolutely vital to the work we do. Whether it's helping care for animals, walking dogs, assisting with wildlife, gardening, fundraising or supporting events, there are many ways people can get involved. We are always delighted to hear from anyone interested in joining our volunteer team."

The GSPCA wishes all those involved in this year's Torteval Scarecrow Festival the very best and hopes islanders will flock along this weekend to enjoy another wonderful community event.
