GSPCA Honoured with Judges’ Special Recognition Award at 2026 Conservation Awards

The Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA) is delighted to have been awarded the Judges’ Special Recognition Award at the 2026 Conservation Awards, organised by Intact Insurance and held at Les Cotils on Tuesday.

This newly introduced award was presented to the GSPCA in recognition of its outstanding and long-standing commitment to animal welfare and conservation across the Bailiwick. The judges created the special category to acknowledge the charity’s generations of dedicated work rescuing, rehabilitating and protecting wildlife, alongside its ongoing efforts to raise awareness of conservation issues within the community.

In their official comments, the judges said:
“This award recognises the GSPCA for its outstanding and long-standing commitment to animal welfare and conservation across the Bailiwick. The judges were particularly impressed by the organisation’s ongoing dedication, professionalism, and the vital role it plays in protecting wildlife, promoting responsible care, and supporting the wider community.”

The judges also highlighted the GSPCA’s:

  • Exceptional commitment to welfare and conservation
  • Protection and rehabilitation of wildlife
  • Education and awareness raising across the community
  • Long-term impact and trusted service
  • Passion, dedication and professionalism

The award included a £250 prize, which will go towards planting native plants around the new Wildlife Hospital, currently under development as part of the charity’s #GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal , which is now well over the halfway mark.

Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager, who attended the awards, said:
“It was a wonderful afternoon celebrating so many incredible projects and organisations making a difference to conservation across the islands. The standard of entries was truly inspiring, and we feel incredibly honoured that the judges chose to recognise the GSPCA in this way. This award reflects the dedication of our team, volunteers and supporters, and the important work we do every day to help animals and people across the Bailiwick.”

The GSPCA continues to play a vital role in the island community, responding to thousands of calls each year, caring for injured and orphaned wildlife, and promoting responsible pet ownership and conservation awareness.
