GSPCA Promoting Careers and Volunteers to Students at Future Workforce Event
The GSPCA was delighted to attend the Future Workforce Event held at The Guernsey Institute's Delancey Campus on 22nd May, where staff had the opportunity to meet students and discuss the many career and volunteering opportunities available within animal welfare.
Representing the charity were GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne and GSPCA Community and Training Officer Tim Pellet, who spent the day engaging with students, answering questions and providing an insight into the wide range of work carried out by the GSPCA.
Throughout the event, Tim and Steve spoke to students about the various roles involved in caring for animals, supporting wildlife, fundraising, education, community engagement, administration and many other aspects of running Guernsey's animal welfare charity.
As part of the event, Steve also delivered a presentation to one of the student groups, highlighting the work of the GSPCA, the challenges faced by animal welfare charities and the many ways people can become involved. The presentation was extremely well received and concluded with a round of applause from the students.
Steve Byrne, GSPCA Manager, said:
"We were delighted to attend the Future Workforce Event and meet so many enthusiastic students interested in learning more about careers, volunteering and opportunities within the charitable sector.
"The GSPCA carries out a huge variety of work every day, from caring for animals and wildlife to education, fundraising, community engagement and supporting pet owners. It was wonderful to be able to share this with the students and explain the different pathways available for those looking to build experience and careers in animal welfare.
"I was especially pleased that the presentation was so well received, and both Tim and I thoroughly enjoyed answering questions and talking about everything the GSPCA does for the island's animals and wildlife."
Tim Pellet added:
"Events like these are a fantastic opportunity to engage with young people and showcase the rewarding opportunities available through both volunteering and employment at the GSPCA. We were delighted by the interest shown throughout the day and look forward to welcoming future volunteers, supporters and team members."
The GSPCA would like to thank The Guernsey Institute for hosting the event and providing the opportunity to connect with students who may become the next generation of animal welfare professionals and volunteers.
