Throughout the month of February we will be promoting the 24/7 work of the GSPCA, the animals in our care and the ways people can and do support our work.

Pictured is the GSPCA Animal Shelter in St Andrews in 1937.

The 14th February is our official anniversary and whether in two weeks, or any day of February there are many ways to get involved and support including our TOP 10 which are –

  1. Could you or your business become an Angel Pen Pal Sponsor
  2. We have a number of Build Projects from the Wildlife Hospital to a Small Animal Department and you could become a Build Partner or Buy a Brick
  3. Could you hold a GSPCA Purple Month sponsored event or hold an event to raise much needed donations
  4. Could you become a volunteer and help us at the GSPCA
  5. Could you help with a Wish List item from the smallest bowl to the new builds
  6. Could you help us with a new GSPCA Animal Ambulance
  7. Could your business volunteer or support the GSPCA in one of many ways
  8. Could you leave a gift in your Will
  9. Could you help give an animal a home
  10. Could you sign up for our newsletter or follow or social media to keep up to date to help promote and share our stories and events

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Today at the GSPCA we start to celebrate 150 years having been established in 1873 with GSPCA Purple Month and the Shelter and Charity Shop have a very purple theme as well as you may see purple ribbons on vehicles.”

“There are so many stories of animals we have helped and our community from major events to lion cubs, penguins to the hundreds of thousands of animals through our doors.”

“Every year we help over 3000 sick, injured, stray, cruelly treated and unwanted animals every year and we couldn’t do so much without the amazing community we support.”

“To start the celebrations of our 150th year today we are launch our first ever GSPCA Purple Month.”

“For over a decade we have held a GSPCA Purple Week around our anniversary which is the 14th February, but as it is such a monumental occasion we are making a month of the celebrations.”

“We’ve made a top 10 list of ways to get involved and support us from becoming a regular sponsor to the many events we have upcoming.”

“We’d love to hear from those wanting to run events to mufti days and of course looking forward to the pictures from the celebrations.”

Yvonne Chauvel GSPCA Senior Animal Care Assistant said “At last GSPCA Purple Month is here so we can celebrate 150 years helping animals in Guernsey and even around the Channel Islands and occasionally further afield.”

“You can get your own GSPCA purple hoodie or t-shirt from our Charity Shop, Animal shelter or via online and if you become a regular sponsor there is also a way of getting a top through the Angel Pen Pal Sponsor scheme.”

“There are so many stories of animals we have helped like the recent abandoned goldfish Birdseye who is now in a new home.”

Tim Pellet GSPCA Training and Community Officer said “We are so grateful to all that help and support us and February is a chance to get involved with our GSPCA Purple Month.”

“If your business would like to support us then we would love to hear from you.”

“There are many CSR opportunities to becoming a Build Partner to help us look to the future with the much needed Wildlife Hospital and other build projects.”

Steve continued “From volunteering a little time to becoming an Angel Pen Pal we are hugely grateful to all that support us at the GSPCA.”

“From humble beginnings to our incredible Animal Shelter and Charity Shop the GSPCA has seen many changes over the years and challenges.”

“Our biggest challenge now is raising the funds to ensure our 24/7 work continues for another 150 years and we can build for the future with our biggest project being the much needed Wildlife Hospital and before that a Small Animal area.”

“If you would like to help us in any way we would hugely appreciate and whether it be one of our top 10 ways or you’d like to discuss an idea we would love to hear from you.”

“To get in touch you can pop in, call 257261 or email [email protected] .”

“Help us celebrate 150 years of the GSPCA with our GSPCA Purple Month this February.”
