GSPCA Warns of Temporary Access and Parking Disruption During #GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal Works
The GSPCA is asking visitors, supporters and those bringing animals to the charity to allow extra time for travel and parking over the coming weeks as essential construction works continue on the new Wildlife Hospital and Kennels as part of the #GSPCABiggestBuildAppeal.
With major infrastructure works now underway, the GSPCA's main car park is currently being excavated to install new sewage, electrical, IT and water services that will support the charity's future facilities. While these vital improvements are an exciting milestone in the biggest project in the charity's history, they do mean temporary disruption for visitors.
At present, parking has been relocated to the side of the GSPCA pond and around the rear of the kennel block. Visitors are asked to follow any temporary signage and directions from staff when arriving on site.
The charity is also warning that ongoing roadworks across the Island may make travelling to the GSPCA more challenging. Anyone planning a visit is encouraged to check the latest roadworks information before setting off by visiting:
https://roadworks.gov.gg/GSW/roadworks.htm
Next week is expected to be particularly challenging as building works continue and additional changes to parking arrangements may be required. Temporary parking may need to be provided in a nearby field, and clear signage will be in place to guide visitors where possible.
GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne said:
"We would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding whilst this once-in-a-generation project progresses. The works currently taking place in the car park are essential to provide the utilities needed for our new Wildlife Hospital and Kennels. We appreciate that access may be a little more difficult than usual, particularly with roadworks around the Island, but our team remains here as normal to help animals and support the community."
"We would encourage anyone planning to visit us to allow a little extra time for their journey, check the roadworks website before travelling and follow any temporary parking signs when they arrive. If you are unsure, please get in touch with us beforehand and we will be happy to help."
Anyone requiring assistance, directions or advice before visiting the GSPCA can contact the team on 01481 257261 or email [email protected].
Despite the temporary disruption, construction of the new facilities continues to make excellent progress. The new Wildlife Hospital and Kennels will transform animal welfare in Guernsey for generations to come, providing modern facilities for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife alongside greatly improved accommodation for dogs and other animals in the charity's care.
There are many ways to support the appeal, including making a donation, sponsoring elements of the project or taking part in the popular Buy a Brick campaign.
