Need your dog or cat microchipped?

On average 2 in 3 dogs and cats that come into the Shelter as a stray aren’t chipped.

A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is inserted between the shoulder blades of a cat or dog and is a permanent form of identification.

This year both the GSPCA and Animal Aid Cats slashed their prices to £4.99 to help encourage pet owners to get their pets microchipped and it is still available at this price with both charities.

However this Saturday the GSPCA are holding an event at the car park by La Guelles Flats at La Vrangue Estate, St Peter Port where all we are asking for is a donation but with no actual charge to microchip your dog or cat.

Staff from the Shelter will be on hand at the car park between 10am and 2pm to chip cats and dogs and to chat about responsible pet ownership.  No appointment necessary this is the first ever Welfare Road Show the GSPCA have organised and we are hoping for a good turn out.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said ‘The reason we are holding this free microchip event is to encourage responsible pet ownership and help reunite lost pets as quickly as possible.’ ‘We deal with 1000’s of stray animals every year and by doing this we hope we will help reunite many more dogs and cats than any conventional means of looking for your lost pet.’  ‘We aren’t charging for the chipping but a donation to our work would be much appreciated to help the many animals that come through our doors every day.’

Today Roary the GFC Lion, Daniel the Donkey from Island FM and Bernard the GSPCA Mascot Dog warmed up with 12 friends for the Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday Mascot Race on the 9th September.

Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday

We are asking businesses, pubs, groups or anyone that would like to get involved with the race to help the animals of Guernsey for a minimum donation of £100.  We will supply a costume for a staff member or budding volunteer to take part and they will get a chance to enter a wheelie bin race and normal race along the Seafront from 1pm on the day.
