The 20th Torteval Scarecrow Festival took place on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th July 2023.

The GSPCA have been supporting the Torteval Scarecrow Festival since 2015 and this year was the first time we have been in the winners line up.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We are hugely grateful to the organisors for allowing us to take part for the eighth year in the Torteval Scarecrow Festival with our GSPCA entry and to the McIntyre family for allowing us to use their front garden.”

“Head of Scarecrow Making for many years has been one of our team Seb Goman and this year she has some amazing help from one of our teams husbands Ned Oliveira who made the centre piece Pedro the Puffin named after a Puffin we released in the last year having been rescued when it was covered in oil .”

"The entry is a real team effort and thanks to all that helped."

“Puffins have been a BIG part in our 150th year celebrations with Autism Guernsey and the 60 giant Puffins go on sale next month at the auction and to find out more check out .”

“We called our entry GSPCA 150th Year filled with Puffins and the team did an amazing job and we can’t believe for the first time we have won one of the amazing trophies which all the team are very thankful for.”

“We are taking Pedro with us to each of the Shows and if you haven’t seen him do come along to the West Show, Donkey Derby or North Show just to mention a few of the events we at and he proved very popular at the South Show and EDABL Seafront Sunday.”

Seb Goman Chief of GSPCA Scarecrows said “We really enjoy taking part in the Torteval Scarecrow Festival and thank you to all those involved.”

“A special thanks to Ned for making the amazing Pedro the Puffin and we still can’t believe we won, thank you so much.”
